Agent Phil Coulson played a key role in Marvel's Phase 1 and his demise at the hands of Loki was what brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes together. Nick Fury resurrected him in time for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and he's since saved the world multiple times alongside his team but will The Avengers ever learn that their old friend has actually been back in the land of the living for a number of years now? Perhaps!
With Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. possibly airing its final season, now seems like the perfect time to make that a reality. Asked by Entertainment Weekly about whether or not he's interested in a reunion, Clark Gregg played coy and pointed to it being down to Marvel.
"When they feel like it’s time to start connecting any of these worlds, they will," he points out. "I feel like I’ll hear from them then, but in the meantime, I have my hands full trying to do a good job on [S.H.I.E.L.D.]." Executive producer Jeph Loeb, however, had a much interesting answer and it sounds like some sort of resolution to this plot thread could be in the works in the not too distant future!
"It’s certainly something that will get resolved, and it may get resolved in a very surprising way," he teased when asked about the possible reunion happening in time for Avengers: Infinity War. As a result, it appears as if we'll just have to stay tuned but expect some answers sooner rather than later.
