Marvel Producer Urged The Russo Brothers To Not Kill [SPOILER] In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has been in theaters for nearly a month, but new details on the film's production continue to come out, and now Marvel Studios' Nate Moore reveals he wanted one hero spared.

Avengers: Infinity War certainly brought joy to many fan's hearts for uniting nearly every character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also had several heart wrenching moments, and nothing caused more emotional distress among audiences that the numerous deaths that occurred.

While the loss of characters like Gamora and Loki earlier in the film were emotional, their deaths were but the first of many that would follow, as Thanos collected the Infinity Stones and eventually wiped out half of all life in the universe with a snap of his fingers.

Among the characters eliminated after the snap were most of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. While the creative forces behind the Marvel film don’t seem to have felt any pushback over most of the characters they killed, it seems producer Nate Moore urged directors Anthony and Joe Russo to spare one hero.

“I knew pretty well what they were talking about and personally urged them to reconsider,” Moore told the Huffington Post, when asked about the death of Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther. “But the storytelling made sense, so I love that we got to see a little bit more of Wakanda in that film, and I hope to see how they’re going to resolve that.”

Though T’Challa will more than likely be brought back to life, the Marvel producer went on to explain that the hero’s death was the right choice, as it helped make the ending more interesting.

“I think ultimately it made for a really interesting, almost more complicated ending to that film because of how well ‘Black Panther’ was embraced by audiences. Again, personally painful, but I understand the reasoning.”

So, while the passing of Boseman’s character will probably prove less than permanent, we can expect to see his death have significant ramifications on the nation of Wakanda and the wider MCU when Avengers 4 comes around.

I'm very confident that Avengers 4 will surpass our expectations and bring this 10 year journey to a great conclusion but there were some deaths in Infinity War I was actually surprised about. The deaths of Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, and Black Panther were some of my biggest surprises. Either due to their popularity or their closeness to the plot, I assumed they would follow up in Avengers 4 in a major way. Boy, was I wrong...

@VicSage - Nah... It's a good way to focus on the original group for one more time! :-)

@VicSage - I love how theyre trying to fake like they're really not all coming back

@RocknRolla - I mean, we know Spiderman and the likes are for sure coming back, but I personally feel like that doesn't take away from this film. But if we look at it moving forward, while the characters will definitely come back that doesn't mean that there are no consequences - for example Spidermans death will for sure have a lasting impact on Tony as a character especially given the way he died.

@AbidNaga -
Personally found the choice of who dies during the later segments of the film to be rather stupid and weightless.

Spider-man, Black Panther, Bucky, Drax, Gamora, Mantis, Doctor Strange and Starlord are all confirmed for sequels.

The characters they could have tricked the audience into believing were not going to be revived were mostly left alive or the deaths have no impact because they killed off other characters that we know are returning so we know without any doubt that they will be back.

@Scarilian - Knowing they're coming back doesn't take away from the shock of it all. Like Empire Strikes back is no less great because Han comes back. Seeing what this does to the original Trilogy, what lengths they'll go through and how this effects them will determine how Infinity War is remembered. Unlike the past Marvel fake-offs this will push the characters that survived even further because they have to live with these consequences, and the fact that they lose.

@Deonox - the difference is no one, not even Harrison Ford, actually knew if Han was coming back, as Ford wanted out of the series. We KNOW for sure most of these characters are definitely coming back.

Still loved the ending. Doesn't bother me. Just pointing out the difference.

@Scarilian - Bucky and Gamora are confirmed for Avengers 4. We don't know about anything else for those two characters. I think Gamora stays dead, as Zoe Saldana is going to be extremely busy with Avatar for the next decade. I don't think she has time for Guardians 3.

@RocknRolla - I don't think they were "faking" it. You have to realize the majority of audiences aren't fan obsessed nerds like us. They are kids and families, that don't know when every movie for the next 10 years is to be released.

@Dacci, @RocknRolla - This is very true. The Theatre in Brooklyn, NYC, where I watched IW on opening day, there were people in pure shock and disbelief at the deaths of certain characters. The two biggest were Black Panther and Spidey. Someone behind actually yelled "No, No, No" at BP's death and it sounded like they couldn't even help themselves from saying it out loud. These were all general audience people. They have no idea about the MCU slate of planned sequels. I have a feeling a lot of the GA didn't even know that Infinity War was a 2 part movie.

"Knowing they're coming back doesn't take away from the shock of it all"

Eh, to me it does.

Rocket dying would have worked really well considering the events of GotG2 - and the voice actor has not confirmed the character for Guardians 3 yet so would have added tension as to whether some of the deaths would be permanent.

If they picked only characters with a similar lack of confirmation of return then we'd all be wondering if they would'nt be able to save them all.

I'm fine if BP stays dead as there'd still be other characters to explore.

@Deodorant - Honestly on the 2% chance that BP & Spidey stay dead, people will be shook in the theaters when the credits roll

@MrCamw1 - Of all of the characters in Black Panther The General (Okoye), Nakia and M’Baku were far more inersting than T’Challa and the one dimensional Kilmonger

@411IDSigo - Anyone know the timeline for Avengers 4? Like, are we having a whole year pass before it's events start or are we jumping in where IW ends?

If a year passes - some crazy changes would be able to take place. Like shuri panther, ronin, hell even scott could lose his daughter and go through the biggest change as a person he's had if he lost her for a year

It would be really interesting though if a character like T'Challa stayed dead or didn't come back right away - since there really are SO many characters in Wakanda that I find more interesting than him after BP came out.

I'm calling bs on this. They've said several times before that they had no idea how successful Black Panther would be when writing this (which makes sense since it came out only 2 months before Infinity War) but now they are saying the studio was trying to get them not to kill him because of how successful he was? This is just them trying to get us to believe that these deaths aren't some cheap drama they have no intention of keeping.
