Robert Downey Jr. Talks Tony Stark's Relationship With Cap In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR And His Iron Man Future

Robert Downey Jr. talks about why Tony wants to "bust [Captain America's] jaw" in Avengers: Infinity War and drops some very interesting hints about his possible future - or lack thereof - as Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark has been the poster boy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008 and heading into Avengers: Infinity War, that doesn't look set to change (his placement on the first poster for the movie pretty much confirms that). However, it appears as if the actor's tenure as Iron Man is nearing its end and in a new interview, the actor has addressed his future as the character.

Asked directly what he might do when it all comes to an end, Downey replied: "You know what, I've learned a lot from the missus. You know how what or how you're gonna end until it is. That takes a lot of the edge off. She's learned how to be like, 'You won't know until you're there so you're wasting your time on that equation. That's not on the test.'" So, he' clearly not made any decisions quite yet.

It does, however, sound like he's ready for the end and excited for what's to come. "I could project all kinds of stuff. I could get into the black dog. Whatever you want. Or I could stay, spiking it in the end zone until I have to be carried off. I'm looking forward to whatever resolution is in the cards."

As for where we find Iron Man when Avengers: Infinity War begins, Downey points to Tony struggling to get over his feud with Steve Rogers which saw them do battle in Civil War when Tony learned The Winter Soldier killed his parents. "To
me the big question is could he ever in clear conscience pick up that flip phone Cap sent him at the end of Civil War. That is really it. For me I think back to Obidiah and that deception, and it's one of those things It's why Steve Perry never went back to Journey."

"I don't know," the actor added when asked if Iron Man and Captain America spend most of the movie apart (something fans would love to know). "I feel like my instinct would be to bust his jaw. All I know is that there's something about being on camera with Evans. I hate to say it, but I don't know what I'm gonna do when he's not Cap anymore. I look at him and think this is the truest, most down moral psychology I've ever seen and then they go, 'Cut!' and Chris is like, 'Hey buddy, I gotta get out of here.' I'm like, 'You wanna go to dinner?' 'Nope.' 'Okay! Love you! Love you, Cap! I mean, Chris!'"

@SlowKnife - Leave it to RDJ to use weird descriptions to answer questions. The journalist can ask:

"So Robert how much did you enjoy filming Avengers 4?"

And he would go:

"I have been riding this cruise ship since it departed. And the ramifications of the lifeboats have been overwhelming but the spa is totally worth it. I can never dilute the refreshments because they are so tasteful the way they are."
