Kevin Feige Explains Why Phase 4 - 6 Have Only Two AVENGERS Movies; Teases Post-Credits Scene Importance

At San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, Marvel Studios revealed its Phase 5 and 6 slates (well, some of them, anyway). It's going to be a busy few years, and the launch of Disney+ means we're going to race through The Multiverse Saga pretty much twice as quickly as The Infinity Saga.

During that time, though, there will only be two Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars

Common sense says that there's simply not enough time for Earth's Mightiest Heroes to assemble multiple times over the next few years. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige offered a better explanation during an interview with ComicBook.com

"You know, we realized that it’s very different than Phase 1, 2, and 3. That there are more projects and less years and therefore, it didn’t seem right to culminate...we’re not gonna culminate every 10 months in an Avengers movie," the executive explains. "And each of the films themselves now has become quite big and are crossover events in many ways."

"And after the creative experience we had with Infinity War and Endgame, it felt like it was about capping a Saga," Feige continued. "Saving back-to-back Avengers films for the completion of a saga. And that’s really what we wanted to lay out today."

In other words, it sounds like the plan moving forward will be for each Saga to culminate with two Avengers films, making them true event movies on the same scale as Infinity War and Endgame. That's not a bad thing, and the MCU is definitely keeping us entertained with all these different stories and newly introduced characters.

Many new faces have shown up in recent post-credits scenes, of course, and Feige would go on to explain that while not all tags are about the future, "A lot of what we've been doing has been building to this larger story, obviously with The Kang Dynasty and the Multiverse Saga, and now I think people will, I hope, come along for the ride."

All signs point to it being a wild ride, and with Phase 5 kicking off with Ant-Man and The Wasp Quantumania next year, we'll soon be thrown into the midst of Kang the Conqueror's machinations for the MCU. What comes beyond that is unclear, though there are some very interesting trademarks floating around, including "Eternity Saga" and "Timeless Saga."

Let us know your thoughts on Feige's comments, and which of these Phase 5 and 6 stories you're most looking forward to, down in the comments section.

Excellent reason, phase 5 and 6 look pretty sweet but it doesn't matter if they're still full of worthless jokes and barebones plot lines

@bobevanz - Exactly this. There's a lot to look forward to and I'm very excited. But I was also excited for some things in Phase 4, and most of it fell flat for me.

@CorndogBurglar - somehow BP2 might end up the best film from Feige in some time now.

@McMurdo - I hope so, but just a week or so the leak came out and everyone here was poo pooing it and this trailer basically confirmed a bunch of those leak plot points.

I just hope they don't try and do another BP fight in the darkness.

The Aztec inspired Namor is cool looking.

" and now I think people will, I hope, come along for the ride."

Feige basically admitting Phase 4 has been somewhat of a let down. Which is fine. Wakanda Forever i feel will be the real jumping off point for this Saga.

I'm hoping that those un-announced titles for phase 6 include some stuff for Shang Chi Spider-Man and a REAL Hulk movie without all the obligitory comedy.

I'm happy to wait until Phase 7 for X-men. Watch though...Third saga is going to be heavily focused on them. Calling it now.. "The Mutant Saga" after Secret Wars goes and resets everything.
