It's fair to say that most of us thought we would be waiting until the end of the year before getting a first look at Avengers 4 but earlier today, the first promo art for the highly anticipated sequel leaked online (if you missed it, you can check it out by clicking here). Simply put, it's absolutely awesome, and it just so happens to reveal quite a bit about what we should expect from the Marvel Studios movie.
Now, we're taking a look at all of those and you might be surprised by just how much you didn't notice in the artwork at first glance. After all, it's not hard to get distracted by seeing Captain Marvel fighting alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes! So, to take a look at this in-depth breakdown, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below. Then, share your thoughts down in the comments section.
Captain America's New Suit
Now that he's rejoined The Avengers, Steve Rogers has had a shave and donned a brand new suit which will definitely make fans happy. The scales are on full display in what appears to be a costume which makes use of a slightly darker, metallic shade of blue and it seems a little more armoured too. Surprisingly, Captain America isn't wielding a shield here so who knows if he ends up getting that back.
War Machine Gets Jacked
Surprisingly, War Machine was among the living at the end of Avengers: Infinity War and it appears as if he's going to receive a serious upgrade for round two against the Mad Titan. It looks like his new suit boasts multiple arc reactors and a gauntlet on his left hand which resembles the one used by Iron Man during his previous appearance. That cannon on his shoulder likely shoots lasers too if I had to guess.
The Hulk Gets A Costume...
Who would have thought the Jade Giant would receive his own superhero costume? This more than likely has something to do with the fact Bruce Banner is going to be travelling into outer space but it could also be related to his inability to transform into The Hulk the last time we saw him. Either way, it's a unique new look for the character and one that's bound to help Marvel shift even more toys.
...And Some Added Intelligence?
Looking at The Hulk here, he definitely has a slightly different appearance so what if we're going to see the merged Professor Hulk in Avengers 4? That feels like a natural evolution for the Green Goliath at this stage and the costume he's wearing in this promo art lends quite a bit of weight to that theory. I guess we'll have to wait and see but here's hoping Bruce Banner actually transforms this time.
Meet Captain Marvel
Avengers: Infinity War ended with an after-credits scene teasing the impending arrival of Captain Marvel and it was confirmed quite some time ago that she'll play a role here. In this promo art, we finally get to see Carol Danvers join the team and she's thankfully in her classic comic book duds as opposed to the green suit which has generated so much discussion. Her powers look mighty cool.
Where's The Wasp?
Well, this kind of sucks. Evangeline Lilly has said that she has only a very small role in Avengers 4 and it seems that's so minor, Hope Van Dyne isn't even going to get any love in concept art like this! Scott Lang, on the other hand, can be seen front and centre so perhaps Ant-Man's new partner will end up being turned into dust at the end of his sequel because that could explain her exclusion here.
Some New Additions To The Team
With most of the Guardians of the Galaxy dead, it makes sense that those who remain will join up with The Avengers and that's why Rocket and Nebula can be seen alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes here. It certainly makes for a unique sight but the latter probably got to know Tony Stark while they were trapped on Titan and Rocket obviously became well acquainted with Thor during Infinity War.
Hawkeye Or Ronin?
If you take a very close look at Hawkeye (a character who was obviously absent from the last Avengers movie), you may notice that his costume not only has elements of his regular superhero suit but also that of Ronin. It's already been confirmed via set photos that Clint Barton will take on that persona in the sequel, so it makes sense that his final suit in the movie is actually a combination of both.
Some Familiar Costumes
Perhaps these are just placeholder images but both Thor and Iron Man are wearing their Avengers: Infinity War costumes. Then again, why would they? The God of Thunder established his new look right at the end of that movie and it's hard to imagine Iron Man's armour getting any more advanced than the last time we saw it. Don't be surprised if he ends up pulling out some surprises, though!
Black Widow's Red Hair
Well, not only has Black Widow decided to return to having red hair but it appears as if she has a new style as well! This makes sense as Marvel likes to change up the looks of characters between films and it also points to some time having passed between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Could those "5 Years Later..." rumours have been accurate? We'll have to wait and see but it might make sense.
Where Are They?
Well, it certainly isn't Earth. Some fans have theorised that this might be Titan and I'm inclined to agree. Earth's Mightiest Heroes heading into outer space in Avengers 4 is an inevitability, especially as the Stormbreaker is capable of taking the God of Thunder anywhere in the universe. It's unlikely the Mad Titan will return to where The Avengers call home, so yeah, they're going on a road trip!
Hell, WHEN Are They?
The appearance of the characters here is different enough that it's pretty obvious there's going to be a time jump of some sort between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. It could be weeks, months, or even years but having the sequel not take place immediately after its predecessor is the right move because that would definitely lessen the impact of all those shocking deaths after Thanos's snap.
Thanos's New Look
In a separate piece of artwork, we see that Thanos will be rocking a new look in Avengers 4. Seeing as the Infinity Stones have probably been weakened and that snap took a toll on him, it makes sense that he would need to protect himself and I have a feeling that massive sword could be more than just a regular blade. Either way, the Mad Titan is clearly still more than a match for our favourite heroes.
