Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers didn't seem to concerned about her appearance and was happy to rock a frizzy hair, no make-up combo. But our first glimpse of Brie Larson in the recent
Avengers: Endgame trailer revealed a noticeably different look for her character.
This came in for some criticism from a small contingent of fans, who accused directors Joe and Anthony Russo of "glamming up" Danvers for her appearance in the superhero ensemble - even thought she filmed her scenes for
Endgame first!
While speaking to
/Film at the recent CinemaCon junket, co-director Joe Russo revealed that Larson actually decided on Carol's look herself.
“She [filmed Avengers: Endgame] before she filmed Captain Marvel, and I think she was experimenting with what the character was. And those were the choices that she and her hair and makeup team had made. And I think as she started to gain a deeper understanding of the character, especially as she approached her own movie. She started to make different choices and as an artist she should be afforded that right to make whatever choice that she wants to make.”
Of course, even without the Russos' clarification this wasn't a big deal, and could easily have been explained away by simply assuming that Carol decided to change-up her look a bit after going make-up free for two decades. But then, outragers gonna outrage.
