Chris Hemsworth Weighs In On Why Thor's Eyepatch Was Missing In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR's Early Previews

Thor lost his eye during the final battle with Hela in Thor: Ragnarok but the convention trailers and promo art for Avengers: Infinity War have shown the God of Thunder without his eyepatch. As a result, there's been a lot of speculation that the hero will somehow regain his vision but it turns out that it all boils down to Marvel wanting to keep that plot point under wraps and it later being added with CGI.

In a new interview, Chris Hemsworth has revealed that wearing the practical eyepatch was a nightmare and confirms that the one we'll see in Avengers: Infinity War is going to be added in post-production.

"It was... yeah, I remembered being... with the eyepatch, the story unrolling, 'Yeah, cool, this is interesting.' And then the day that we put the eyepatch on I was like, 'This is ridiculous,'" Hemsworth said. "The thing kept falling off, and we didn't have the thing [gestures an eyepatch strap]. So it became a CG eyepatch, which I was stoked about... But I'm happy with that trade [for the wig]. It has its downsides. But the upside is that it's an hour less in hair and makeup without the wig on."

It's important to remember that while the eyepatch looks cool, the amount of stunts done by Hemsworth means that a CGI version was the only realistic option. It is, however, interesting that Marvel didn't just choose to get rid of the straps in post or come up with an easier to use real one. However, both of those could have hindered the actor's performance, so the studio probably ended up making the best choice. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments section down below.

One of my dogs lost an eye last year, so now whenever I see someone lose an eye in a movie I get kinda queasy and sad.

I mean, there’s things such as spirit gum. A small dab and it’ll stay in place until you decide you want it removed. I don’t know, it just seems like with Lawrence’s Mystique and Hemsworth with the wig and eye patch, the actors don’t seem to want to wear or be what they are hired to wear/be. After Infinity War, he’ll have his eye back and he’ll keep the short hair, guaranteed.

@MikeyL - This is true. They are hired and paid millions and then they batch about it ? Do they not read their contracts. Don't they speak to fellow actors who have gone through the process ? There is an old saying in the ARMY...." SUCKERED IT UP, AND DRIVE ON !"

@MikeyL - Honestly with all the stunts he's doing i'm sure there's a combination of cgi for the stunts and practical for certain shots. It also might be a safety thing with depth perception

They should just not answer any question people have about shooting the film. That way they can minimize all the stupid complaints about trivial things, like eye patches.

@newhire13 -

Criticism has justification when the actors decision to not wear an eye-patch is going to add a lot to the budget of the movie meaning it will require more to break-even. Note prior situations of CGI removal/addition;
