AVENGERS: SECRET WARS Rumored Plans May Make AVENGERS: ENDGAME's Portal Scene Look Downright Small Fry

A very interesting new Avengers: Secret Wars rumour has started doing the rounds and, if correct, it sounds like Avengers: Endgame's Portals scene will pale in comparison to what's coming our way in 2026.

Avengers: Secret Wars only recently found a writer in Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron, so any rumours we hear about the movie should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, we couldn't help but share what sounds like some epic plans for this final chapter in The Multiverse Saga.

In 2019's Avengers: Endgame, the "Portals" scene left all our jaws on the floor by assembling pretty much every MCU superhero to join the fight against Thanos.

According to the Heavy Spoilers YouTube channel (a relatively reliable source of scoops), Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are looking to significantly up the ante in Avengers: Secret Wars. How? With a scene that would bring characters together from the entire Multiverse.

Apparently, this would include, "Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, several X-Men cast members, Fantastic Four ones, and so on and so forth. Kang will have ravaged multiple dimensions at this point, and there will be a final stand against him."

That sounds very exciting, and is pretty much what everyone was hoping to see in the Doctor Strange sequel earlier this year. How easy it will be to enlist all those actors remains to be seen, though we're sure there are plenty of them who would be open to reprising their old roles for a decent paycheque and the chance to be part of the MCU.

If this is even close to being accurate, it feels like Marvel Studios plans to end The Multiverse Saga with the creation of a new MCU, similar to what happened at the end of Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's Secret Wars comic book.

That likely means we can expect the X-Men to finally be front and centre in the MCU. It's also not outside the realm of possibility that we could see new actors playing characters like Iron Man and Black Widow. After all, by the time Avengers: Secret Wars is released, the MCU will be nearly two decades old, so a reboot of some sort can't be off the table.

Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released on May 1, 2026.

@bobevanz - But why wouldn't this be true, in some regard? This is Secret Wars we're talking about

@comicfan100 - because they barely fit everyone in the Endgame battle, not trying to squeeze in almost 30 yrs worth characters from multiple franchises

@ShimmyShimmyYA - If anything or any movie to do it, it is Secret Wars. Seeing a live-action Battleworld has enormous potential.

@HWestRE420 - it does but bear in mind IW had to be spilt in 2 just to tell the full story, rn they’re sticking to SW being one movie
JonC
JonC - 11/16/2022, 11:55 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - if they took 1 -to 5 from each series they would have plenty of time to tell their stories... as an example, in Nick
Cage's Ghost Rider there is no reason to bring anyone but him. Whereas in Fox's FF they could bring Reed, Sue and Thing from the original 2 movies and leave out Johnny... though i will say that Evans acted so differently playing Cap vs Johnny that they could potentially bring him back as well.
JonC
JonC - 11/16/2022, 11:57 AM
@JonC - and though Fox's Xmen had dozens of characters they really only need bring back a half dozen to a dozen... and give many of them no additional backstory (as they lacked it in the Foxverse as well).

I hope they remember what made the portal scene so great. It's not just about the spectacle of it. It's ten years worth of proper emotional investment, one man standing against unwinnable odds, the sense of finality, and last but not least, the novelty it had back at that time.
KWilly

@Fares - The score behind it made it spectacular too
Fares

@KWilly - Well that goes without saying. The Avengers theme is one of the best things to ever come out of the MCU.

@Fares - facts. Endgame did such a good job in that battle that you forget they even did the snap until you hear falcon over the radio and then it’s a holy shit moment

If i was going to recast a main Avenger, it would ironically be one who is still around. May the multiverse give us a new comic-accurate Mighty Thor.

Also wouldn't mind some iteration of this fight from Avengers #54

So the writer of the two worst multiverse stories in phase 4 is something we should get excited for the culmination of?
Fogs

@xxDocDropxx - No way, Loki was downright awesome. MoM I understand it was divisive (tho I enjoyed most of it), but... Nah, I trust the writer.

I'm not really sure how you jumped from "bring[ing] together characters [...] from the entire multiverse" in a portals-esque sequence, to "it feels like Marvel Studios plans [...] the creation of a new MCU" AND that that's somehow necessary for the "X-Men to finally be front and centre in the MCU"

At least two mutants have already been introduced in the mainline MCU; why would the multiverse or an MCU reboot be necessary to introduce the X-Men when mutants already exist?
Deklipz
Deklipz - 11/16/2022, 9:08 AM
@AC1 - Kind of seems like a huge step backwards to introduce mutants just to erase the established world and start over. I can see them 'destroying' the other universes and having a handful of heroes from those frnachises make appearances while their universes are destroyed and maybe some of them are saved to help defeat Kang or whoever the main protagonist ends up being. But I don't see a complete reboot at all. Not even recasts by way of 'multiverse' IMO. It'll end those universes and set a base for future storytelling without eliminating what's already happened. They've committed to telling an ongoing story and I don't thik they'll just stop to start over. It only appeals to fanboys and even then only a small percent.

Sounds exciting I guess is one way to put it, but it is too early to in the process to come to any real conclusions. So until then, I'll hope for the best, and expect something a little short of that.

I fully expect Marvel Studios to try and bring in everyone & anyone who's ever played a Marvel superhero on screen in Secret Wars. The 90's cancelled F4, 2000's F4, Fant4stic, Garrett Morris as Ant-Man, Ben Affleck's Daredevil, both versions of Howard the Duck, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Nicholas Hammond as an older Peter. Even if they're just blink and you'll miss it cameos.

They more than likely won't get all of them, but I bet they'll try.

You mean to tell me...a movie that takes place in a series with an established multiverse, and shares its name with a comic that involves characters from across the multiverse coming together, is most likely going to feature a scene with characters from across the multiverse coming together???

If Endgame was the culmination of 10 years of Marvel Studios films, Secret Wars is the culmination of Marvel properties, in general.

Watch this rumor slowly morph into an expectation and then a reality.

I somewhat believe this is the plan, but that is because I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be this idea to unite past actors into one movie. But I am sensing "BIG" ramifications coming.

Wakanda being targeted in future stories, Incursions throughout, Kang's intro, shit is getting crazy in 616. I will say "some" of the shows don't live it up for me but I am starting to really understand this epilogue that is Phase 4.

Really not a fan of people, especially fans, seeing multiverse and immediately going “this is a chance to go ‘I remember him!’ at the screen!” It’s a multiverse story, so of course there will be some of that, but making it the *point* is kinda lame to me. For Battleworld stuff I’d honestly rather see the actors we know in a bunch of different costumes. “Why is that version of Reed Richards have the number 400 on his chest?” is more interesting to me than “Oh look they brought back the guy from 20 years ago”.
