We can't wait for Thor's thunder crashing, Hammer pounding entrances. We long for Cap's shield wielding, Flip fighting moves. And well, we love Starks quick wit, huge ego and love of being...well...love of being Iron Man. All these characters have and are to be brought to life by three men: Robert Downey J.r., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans. An overwhelming feeling takes place in my mind, just thinking about Evans and RDJ.r talking on screen, let alone the whole Avengers line-up sat around a round table, centered with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo. Its quite exciting alone to think of RDJ.r. battling the Hulk let alone a whole team backing him up. Black Widow, War Machine, and (possibly) Hank & Pym aside, I will discuss which certain aspects that spring to mind.
The question we must ask. Is Whedon (If chosen) gonna throw these three big shots into a scene expecting it to pan out like any other triplet of actors would do. I believe, that with the three were dealing with, a simple line or two won't be enough. Their previous movies won't do them justice. The dialogue, I'm basically saying, will have to be cleverly written just as much as the story itself. Very cleverly written.
For example. If were right into the Avengers, and the rest of the team have accepted that they just thawed out a super soldier from the 1940s who is ready to kick ass again. Stark, being the guy we've watched rise from both Iron Man movies, we hope would react in typical Stark fashion. But given this is quite a jam packed movie, will Robert be given the freedom to act out his character as normal or will he be assigned a more serious Stark, something we dread?
I personally believe the best route to follow is this (Short but sweet) for the three characters.
-Stark (Downey J.r.) acting the same as we love him from the previous movies, but becoming increasingly jealous that Fury is considering Cap as their prime leader. Lines like this could apply:
FURY
Stark, aren't you gonna suit up?
STARK
Why would I do that? It seems you got your hands full with Private America there. Can't he do something? Wrap it all up in a few moments?
FURY
Its Captain to you Stark...that boy has seen things you wish you'd never seen. If you had any ounce of your father in you, you'd fall in line.
Stark, by this time is in his suit, and the mask falls down classically with a clunk. He simply brushes past Fury, exiting.
-Rogers (Evans) is scared sh******. He's cold, wrapped in special devices ensuring his body is kept warm. He shivers, and couldn't give a damn why they need him and what their reason for thawing him out is. Being as young and quite vulnerable as he is, he follows Fury's orders immediately, only making Stark insanely envious. Things get worse when Widow begins to admire Caps ability to get the job done, etc. This could later lead to Stark, foiling Caps attempts to "steal the show", and trying to finish the mission himself. This obviously proves much to difficult. Another aspect this could lead to is "Demon in the bottle"?
And finally...
-Thor (Hemsworth) is already hard to reach anyway. So when he finally agrees to negotiate with the Avengers initiative, Thor already predicts the corruption and hatred between certain team members. Thor could be used as a device of controlling the tempered Stark, and with his meaningful words "Back in Asgard, etc", he could prove to be the peace maker.
I'm assuming in the long run, things will pan out a lot similar to this. But I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one imagining scenarios in this sense, and that you guys were on the same train as me.
