I Am Rogue have seemingly put an end to the recent rumors that actor Derek Luke would be back as Howling Commando, Gabe Jones in Joss Whedon's
The Avengers. While many speculated that he would perhaps appear in WWII flashbacks or made up as an old man, it would now appear that neither of those scenarios are the case.
Earlier today, I had the opportunity to speak with actor Derek Luke on the phone about his role in Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as his part on the hit TNT medical series Hawthorne, co-starring Jada Pinkett Smith. I wanted to get to the bottom of these rumors once and for all, so I asked the actor point blank if he could confirm for us that he will be appearing in The Avengers. "No, I can’t confirm that," he said. "But let me go to my bank account first and see if that’s true," joked Luke. "No, I heard rumors about that too," he went on to say. As far as I know I’m not in it, but I’ll see Kevin Feige and all those guys tomorrow (at the premiere of Captain America: The First Avenger) and I guess they’ll let me know." Finally, I followed up one more time just to be clear and asked Derek Luke if he has shot any footage at all for The Avengers. "No, I have not," the actor confirmed.
