Edgar Wright Seemingly Confirms Ant-Man Will Not Appear In The Avengers!

Many fans are still hoping that the iconic Avenger will appear in the movie next year, but according to Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish at the Kapow! Comic Con this weekend, that just does not fit in with his and Edgar Wright's script...

"We delivered the second draft of 'Ant-Man two days ago, and we're really happy with it," Joe Cornish told the packed out crowd at Kapow! on Saturday. "We’re currently working on it, not right now. But the day after tomorrow we’ll go to Los Angeles and...[nods to Edgar]."

The director of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World expanded on this by detailing the lengths the duo went through to get the movie made.

"We kinda have a stock response now, it’s true to say we’ve been writing it in some form. Weirdly, the treatment for ‘Ant-Man’ exists before Marvel Studios," he revealed. "There was a treatment that Joe and I did when Artisan had the kind of lower-rung Marvel properties and we wrote a treatment for it that exists before ‘Hot Fuzz’."

Wright added: "Basically, when I met Kevin Feige I said, ‘Oh, did you ever get our ‘Ant-Man’ treatment?’ and he had never read it so we submitted it properly like four years later. So it’s something me and Joe have genuinely been working on for nearly a decade and at some point we’ll finish the script."

Despite previous reports that Ant-Man will not have a role in The Avengers, there are still many fans who are desperately hoping that both he and the Wasp will have some sort of role in the 2012 movie. While a cameo of some sort isn't out of the question, Edgar Wright was quick to point out that a full blown appearence just would not fit in with the script he's just handed in.

"The thing is, the script that I’ve written...the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what [The Avengers] do. And my film is very much an introduction to [Ant-Man], and so it wasn’t something where it felt right to introduce him in [Whedon's] film."
