Marvel's Phase 3 will be the conclusion of everything that has been built up since Iron Man. With Avengers: Infinity War Part II coming out in May of 2019, it seems to be the end of everything for that era. However, I think what Marvel should do with this is to bring in entirely new properties throughout Phase 4, with no sequels. This will require a complete realignment of focus onto the vigilantes in New York City. This starts with the biggest one...
I know, I know Spider-Man is with
Sony but I think that a joint-collaboration isn't far off. And, by that, I mean the collaboration that
Marvel promised to
Universal: that
Sony gets distribution rights while
Marvel gets creative license. As we know,
The Incredible Hulk is the only film in the
MCU not distributed by
Paramount Pictures or
Walt Disney Pictures. For any future Hulk movies,
Universal also gets distribution rights. That, I think, will be the case with all future Spider-Man films. So, the deal wouldn't be a big problem, considering that Amy Pascal will be leaving
Sony but remain on in producer capacity. I think Avi Arad will be getting the boot with this deal and Pascal will no longer be in control of that decision.
As for how this will work, I think this film can work as a clear way for the film-going audience to jump into the criminal underbelly that
Marvel will have introduced with the
Daredevil series. It also uses one of their most viable properties to do that. While Spider-Man has become less and less viable, I think, worst case scenario that it will perform at $650 million. Given Spider-Man will likely make his debut with
Avengers: Infinity War Part I or
II, it should boost that into the $700-800 million range. This decisive move into the criminal underbelly will provide the direction for the formation of the New Avengers, a team dedicated to simply fighting a crime lord.
Daredevil can be the second film in Phase 4. This film, I feel, would be perfect as a November 2019 release and doesn't need his origin provided. Given the Netflix series, footage from that can be used to show his origin in the credits sequence before jumping right into the universe at large. The events of
Spider-Man can influence this film quite significantly, showing off a more closely knit universe with Phase 4 because the scope has significantly shrunk for the first three movies. I'm not going to make this a fan-fiction article describing what will happen but I think Daredevil's story can basically pick up in the same crime-fighting story left with the last film.
Moon Knight is simply a must-have for this universe at some point and given what I think the direction Phase 4 should take with its Earth-bound films, is a no-brainer as well. I think this should be the first non-sequel solo film to take the first weekend of May release date. This will demonstrate the confidence needed for this character to compete on this grand playground.
This would be fascinating as it would allow a third perspective in the war on crime in New York City. I would also think that perhaps introducing Shang Chi and Iron Fist in this film would work well when we get to the
New Avengers film next May. I think
Marvel's goal should be to set up something new and truly different in this phase from the other three. This goal of focusing on smaller Earth-bound adventures will truly offer something different from the typical world-saving affair. However, I think people are going to really yearn for that coming back which is why I think
Marvel would also need to offer another trilogy's culmination.
The third
Guardians of the Galaxy film could offer something wildly different from the new flair of Phase 4. It would be a standard
Marvel flick, which, by this point, would probably be something the general audience would be asking for after the criminal and crime procedural nature of the last few films. This could show the aftermath of Thanos' attack on Earth from the last
Avengers film as it affects the cosmos as a whole. This can culminate the last
Guardians of the Galaxy film for a while and leave room for Ms. Marvel to serve her purpose in the next two phases as the cosmic character that will give us glances into the cosmos.
Advertising this as such a culmination will probably allow
Marvel to truly set-up another threat of a massive cosmic level to come to Earth for the sixth
Avengers movie. Speaking of films that could probably use sequels in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Doctor Strange should be returning to standard life probably finally taking up residence in Manhattan where we are seeing the local criminal empires becoming more and more dangerous. When the crimelord that
Marvel uses for the
New Avengers film takes one of Doctor Strange's relics and starts using to wreak havoc with the universe and placing himself on top of the criminal empire, we see Doctor Strange get sucked into the gang war. This will provide one recognizable face to join the brewing rebellion against the storm of crime.
The after-credits scene should just tease the coming together of this team, formed by Daredevil, to take down this crime lord in the
New Avengers film. However, we also get a glimpse that this crime lord has way more up his sleeve. This plot, though small at first, will provide a launchpad that'll bring the New Avengers to international prominence once again following the disassembly of the Avengers at the end of the last
Avengers flick.
The
New Avengers film will propel this new, small team to a level of prominence that the Avengers were at coming into
Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the next film, we can see Black Widow rejoin the team along with Black Panther (who will get a new solo film in the next phase). I really think it is safe for
Marvel to leave Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Thor in the past for the three phases until the general audience can feel comfortable with a re-cast of the characters. I think each three phases should see a refocus of characters so that the universe can remain fresh and free to expand to much greater horizons.
I'm thinking that, one day, the picture above can be a reality. But, I think we might have to wait for quite a while. However, when that time comes, we can see it because of how broad the universe has gotten and the small steps
Marvel would've taken to get there. I think this would be the most logical next step to a new era. What do you guys think?
