Several days ago I posted an editorial about who the army in the avengers might possibly be. Well, after several days of conversing with people and seeing the new trailer I wanted to talk some more about my theory. I believe the enemy army is and will be Atlantis.
The first item I read on this site involved a call sheet regarding a scene with something called “leviathan”. Leviathan is defined as the following:
1) Monster: in the bible, a large beast or sea monster
Something Huge: something extremely large and powerful
in comparison with others of its kind
2) Whale: a whale or other large sea animal

The producers of this movie and Marvel Comics have been very adamant that there are no other “heroes” in this movie. When Namor was first introduced into comics he was not a hero but a villain who fought the original human torch and Captain America. Joss whedon has recently stated that the movie is from Captain America’s perspective.

Last week there was an article about the producer giving an interview which he states that the “enemy” was neither the Kree nor the Skrull. He even mad a statement that they may not bet from outer space. He also states that the army would not have a major effect on the movie universe.

This week there was an article about a possible tie in with Namor on the set of Iron Man 3.

There had also been mention that Jeffery Wright had been on the New York set. If you watch his performance in “Shaft” I felt he had the look of a possible Namor. He might be a tad small but he had the hair and the facial hair to pull it off.
After the new preview we once again saw an ocean shot of some type of flying vehicle landing on what looked like some kind of aircraft carrier (possibly Shield hover carrier). With the first preview showing Iron Man flying out of what looks like the ocean.
In 1989 Marvel Comics had a series called “Atlantis Attacks”. This series had a tie in with every major comic at the time Avengers, west Coast Avengers, X-Men, and The New Mutants. There was even a Spider Man tie in as well. The story was set around the Avengers and how an ancient god talked the Silver Surfer into giving him his dead form back. The God then comes to earth and convinces Attuma, who is the ruler of Atlantis into attacking the surface world. At the end of the series Namor seems to come back from the dead to save the day.

Marvel has used a war between Atlantis and the Surface world before. During the comic history of Atlantis it is stated that Atlantis was a super advanced society. So is it possible that Joss Whedon went to source material for his inspiration? Also look up Attuma. You might be surprised what his armor looks like.

These are the details that lead me to believe that the army is Namor and Atlantis. Joss Whedon is great at taking an evil or bad character and give him or her substance and can make you feel for the character. All you have to do is watch old episodes of “Buffy”. They even got a spinoff with “Angel”. I believe this would also give the universe a boost. Obviously the army has technology above the norm in the previews. This could catapult future movies into the search for new technology. This is a way to introduce the Black Panther and Wakanda for future Marvel movies. Also leaves villains such as Klaw or even set up for a possible civil war story line.

I have been following comic book movies since I was a young teenager in 1989 with Batman. At that time there was no internet or forum like this to talk with people. You would talk to people in your local comic book shop and you would throw around ideas and theories. There was a magazine at the time called “Cinescape” the best part of the magazine was the last few pages. There it would show you the latest information on comic book movies. For example it would tell you the title who was involved in the movie what the possible release date and possible plot points. From these pages came some of the best discussions I had with my friends. In some of the talks we agreed on others we had loud yelling matches. The bottom line was we all loved comics and movies.

I would like to think that everyone who reads this site is in some way into comic books and movies. These are mediums that use your imagination to take you to different places. I have never been to Krypton nor have I been to Atlantis. But, by reading comics and watching these movies I can imagine. So when I see articles that are asking questions like “why does it matter?” To me it makes all the difference in the world. I enjoy thinking about all the possibilities where this film might take me. I am even more excited about where the spin off movies will take me. Sites like this show that people care and are excited. The more people are excited and talk, hopefully the producers and production companies will see there is profit in these projects.

In closing I would like to say I am LOUDLY AND DEFIENTLY STATING MY OPINION, BECAUSE IT DOES MATTER!!!!! I THINK THE ENEMY ARMY IS ATLANTIS!

Jeffrey Wright as Namor?...
DDD
DDD - 2/7/2012, 5:36 AM
JEFFREY WRIGHT is AFRICAN AMERICAN.

NAMOR is CAUCASIAN-LOOKING. His last name
is MCKENZIE.

This is totally incorrect casting!
Man, I hate incorrect casting!

But the aliens MIGHT be ATLANTEANS
and NAMOR may be the surprise big character
at the end of THE AVENGERS.

But ATLANTEANS are not ALIENS and
NAMOR just is "NOT" BLACK!

The ATLANTEANS do make a lot of sense
as the "INVADING" horde that LOKI is using
to attack THE AVENGERS but there's one
thing, ATLANTEANS don't use space-time warp
portals to travel. They are "already" here
on earth.

Of course LOKI may be moving ATLANTEANS around
with HIS space-time wormholes.

And the attacking horde are blue and the armor
does look very ATLANTEAN. I think the armor is
gold in color but the shadows make it look grungy
green. That is probably from the golden-yellow
of the golden metallic armor being made to
look kind of green. Mixing gold and blue gives
you green.

Plus the "LEVIATHAN" DOES preach towards an AQUATIC
dragon-like creature, one that can obviously fly.
And it would make sense to have ATTUMA leading the
horde.

This all does make a lot of logical sense.

It would be so totally cool if NAMOR "WAS" the
surprise guest-star in THE AVENGERS movie!

@DDD

Not too sure about it being Atlanteans, but as far as Namor's incorrect casting.....

They made BALDER black.....he wasn't just a white person, he is part of a race of ONLY white people. He even has a white sister who played a large part in the movie. So all bets are off, IMO.

Ok, I just looked at Jeffery Wright, there's no way that dude is Namor, BUT my statement of a black Namor still stands

could it be...
Loki promises alpha centaurians water from Earth for their help in getting the tesseract. The alpha centaurians start taking water which pisses off Namor and the Atlanteans who show up and it's an all out brawl.

Dude, the Atlanteans aren't in this movie. It would be way to complex and "fanboy-ish" to include them.

Try explaining that to the normal movie-goer?

...Loki's the bad guy but he's using an army from Atlantis that's really under the control of Namor, this guy with pointy ears and pissy attitude that hates humans and wants to protect the ocean...oh and somehow the Cosmic Cube is important too...

Why too much to rationalize.

Whedon and Feige have both stated that the identity of Loki's army isn't that important to the plot of the film. Thus, it's not a bunch of Atlanteans trying to "protect the oceans".

The best bet IMO is that it's a group of random, semi-known aliens from the comics who bear a similar appearance to Thanos. Fiege played up the whole Infinity Gauntlet thing in the one video where the guy was carrying it around behind him. I would put major money on the plot going something like this...

Loki has made a deal with Thanos to help acquire the Tesseract. Thanos has given Loki control of his army to subdue the earth. In exchange for the cube Thanos will allow Loki to rule earth as it's king.

Now, Thanos will not be revealed as the over-arching antagonist until the third act of the film thus making it easier for non-comic fans to understand..."Oh, well Loki made this deal with this shadowy underworld-type guy called Thanos in order to ultimately control the earth."

The scene at the end of Thor played up the whole cube being central to the story. "Well, I guess that's worth a look." Remember?

Loki goes back to Thanos and says "Hey, I know where and how to get the cube. Give me the resources and I'll get it for you if you let me have earth."

Simple as that.

@gmoney I agree with your ideas- except it doesn't explain why there were so many Namor easter eggs in IM2.

Have anyone of you thought that the aliens that we saw on the Superbowl spot are not the actual think? I mean, some altered CGI to show us something and raise the speculation while they keep hiding the actual thing for the moviegoers??

Just guessing, but it could be!! who knows? we we'll all find out on May!

^They wouldn't waste money on CG just to trick us, bro.

@dopemaster...what do you mean "so many Namor easter eggs"? Last I check there was one and that was the map on the screen in the SHIELD safe house. What other ones were there?

I have to disagree with you and this article on these other two Namor references. #1 - Oracle is a real life company and thus isn't a reference to the MCU. And #2 that news article is completely unreadable. By that logic I could say it's an article about a guy dressed in a Black Panther costume found in Africa!

I'm just speculating.. I agree with your theory and think Thanos would/will be rad- but why would Namor be on the map if they never intended on using him?

In my mind this movie has to set up IM3 and Thor 2. Two different threats would accomplish it.

Oh I think Namor would be awesome. Great character and I'm all for trying to get him in the MCU. I just see putting him in Iron Man or Thor as a villain as an epic waste when there are so many other great villains for those guys. Mandarin, Surtur, AIM, Amora. These characters are more appropriate. Namor is ultimately a good guy. He's stubborn and has problems with the non-atlanteans but he would never be the full on antagonist in one of these films.
