Mark Ruffalo Describes The Hulk As The Teammate None Of The Avengers Want!

Check out what the actor had to say about using motion capture to bring the Hulk to life on the big screen, as well as confirmation that he will at some point fight alongside the team even though they may not want him to...

"I play Bruce Banner. We're going back to the original. I will be the first actor to actually do the motion capture for the Hulk, and play the Hulk. It'll be like Avatar."

"They'll digitally overlay the Hulk body on my masculine physique. They won't have to do much CGI though, thank God."

"He's like the teammate none of them are sure they want on their team. He's a loose cannon. It's like, 'Just throw a grenade in the middle of the group and let's hope it turns out well!'"

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

I hope we see William Hurt in this film. He kind of represents the Incredible Hulk continuity aspect to me.

Big fan of the Ruff tho. I am sure he will do an outstanding job.

As great as I'm sure Ruffalo will be, I'm still pretty devo'd Norton isn't in the role.

EDWARD NORTON = BRUCE BANNER / THE INCREDIBLE HULK

You've got some big shoes to fill Mark.

If you've got time;

Yeah we need General Ross in this movie. He's essential to the story, especially after the end of TIH.

This guy is really blowing himself about being the "first" motion-capture for the HULK. He better be good.

Nice find! Still not keen on Mark as Hulk, but I guess we just got 2 c how well he does in the role... Damn why couldn't Marvel get someone who looked similar to Ed Norton? Barry Pepper would've been a cool replacement...

Speaking of the Hulk though, check out my The Hulk fan cast!

Great metaphor though. Ruffalo is not wanted on the team in real life. So, it's actually poetic.

@teabag.....I agree.....while Edward Norton was a sympathetic Bruce Banner, the problem was the ego he had about it when it came to the ending of Iron Man where he should have been in it rather than Sam Fury. Norton complained about doing the Italian Job but he was under contract to and he did a good job as the villain. He needs to stop thinking he is better than everyone else and play fair. I prefer Ruffalo, he's a nice guy, great actor, does good in ensemble casting and looks more like Bill Bixby than Norton

I love how everyone is needlessly hating on Mark Ruffalo just because he's NOT Edward Norton....

It's as if all of you haters forgot that Edward Norton CHOSE to NOT be in the Avengers... basically a big F YOU to all his fans and CBM fans all around the world.

He also REFUSED to do promotion for the Hulk when it came out which shows how much he really cares about putting his fans first...

Thanks Mark Ruffalo for actually being excited and in turn making us excited for The Avengers and not letting you ego get in the way.

Can't wait for exactly one year from today.

He will do a great job as Banner. He is a fantastic actor. I love the idea of the motion capture like Avatar. It will give it a sense of realism. Hulk vs Thor!!! Hell ya!!!!

Man, I'm so ready to see Thor and Hulk throw down in the Avengers. That has to be the most amazing fight scene in a CBM to date.

Ruffalo will do a great job as Banner/Hulk. I am just wondering if he will have bushy hair and a scruff or will he be more clean cut with short hair and look more like Banner?? Anyone's guess I suppose

...with glasses will be nice too!

..and hopefully we will get to see Gen. Ross (William Hurt) do at least a 5 minute cameo

@ DoubleD- I can't wait ! I think they are going to do the Hulk the right way. 7 to 8 feet tall,

Ruffalo said "We're going back to the original"..as in original continuity of the 2008 Hulk story which means he will remain at 9 feet tall.

@ DoubleD- MY ONE CONCERN IS Ruffalo IS TOO OLD ! He will be fine for this movie but he will be 50 years old for the sequels.

Edward Norton will turn 42 in August. Ruffalo is only 1 year and 9 months older. If they do the sequels at 2 years apart like they have done with Transformers movies ( and assuiming Ruf will be in Hulk sequels), Ruf will be a very busy and main actor and will be around 47 years old.

btw...Robert Downey Jr is awesome as Stark/IronMan and he is already 46 yrs old which means he will be 53 if they do the sequels 3 years apart. I am very confident that Marvel will be doing the sequels sooner than we think. :)

@Teabag: i never noticed that, Ang Lee made Hulk's everything biger except those ears :)

@teabag

True...but also in addition to what it says in the section of 'The Incredible HULK: A Comic Book History':

"Mark Ruffalo will take over Edward Norton who was portraying Hulk's Alter Ego, Bruce Banner in the previous movie. This would be in continuity with The Incredible Hulk(2008)."

1st pic by GUNSMITH is the way to go.

The TIH hulk,a bit taller(atleast 1 feet),a bit more bulkier ,muscular, ripped ,stronger and the powers namely REGENERATIVE skin ,LEAPING and Strength increase with increase in Rage shall return.

Shouldn't this guy loose some weight?try to look a bit energetic and younger?he looks an old drunkard with all that unkempt curly hair.

@SuperArgo your hulk looks like Maiden's Eddie.

BTW: Ruffalo will own. Norton was a good Banner but was a jackass. So let's move on to the nice guy who knows how to be a professional and seems to respect CBMs as a serious form of art.

Glad they recast him, not because of performance, but because Norton is a fickle actor.

He's never done a sequel and he seems to pick his films very carefully only when he has a lot of control. I have a hard time believing he would have been on board for future avengers films if they're made.

Especially since I don't think Joss Whedon would let him rewrite the script like he did with hulk.
