The mystery surrounding who owns Avengers Tower has been plaguing us since Spider-Man: Homecoming was released in 2017 (that's almost seven years for those of you keeping count).
In the movie, we learned Tony Stark had decided to sell the iconic landmark and all the removal of The Avengers' tech ended up being a key plot point in Peter Parker's battle with The Vulture. We thought answers were coming in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but the building has since been conspicuously absent from shots of New York City and the new owner's identity remains a mystery.
On the one hand, it's hard not to wonder whether Marvel Studios just wanted to move on from the Avengers Tower concept, turning it into just another New York skyscraper. On the other, rumours about the buyer continue to crop up online.
Over the years, everyone from the Fantastic Four to Mephisto has been mentioned, while there was a time when we expected Oscorp to potentially take charge of the building which once housed Earth's Mightiest Heroes (that fell by the wayside when Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed Earth-616 has no Norman Osborn).
Talking to ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum was asked whether the question of "Who bought Avengers Tower?" will ever be answered.
"Yes," he stated. "Honestly, yes, you will."
With Echo and Daredevil: Born Again on the way, we can't help but wonder whether Avengers Tower will become Fisk Tower. It would be more than a little symbolic for Wilson Fisk to make the team's former headquarters his base of operations as New York City Major and a fitting location for a final battle with Spider-Man and Daredevil.
"I can't answer any of those questions," Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio previously said about the idea of his villain residing there. "Nobody's ever asked me that, though. I'm surprised you're, actually, now that you've asked, you're the first person that's ever asked me that."
Despite all the speculation surrounding Avengers Tower, it only really played a major role in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In that movie, Ultron attacked the team when he was first created and it was there we later got to witness the birth of The Vision.
In the comics, meanwhile, Avengers Tower was eventually destroyed in the pages of World War Hulk when the rampaging Green Goliath squared off with Iron Man in his Hulkbuster armour.
Stay tuned for updates.
