Mild Potential Spoilers For The Avengers & Joss Whedon At A Struggle With Stunts?

Mild Potential Spoilers For The Avengers & Joss Whedon At A Struggle With Stunts?

I've dug up 3 interesting tidbits regarding The Avengers, including who Stellan Skarsgard may affiliate with, director Joss Whedon struggling, & a mild spoiler from the set work!

Firstly, it's known that Thor actor Stellan Skarsgård will be reprising his 'Dr. Erik Selvig' role in Joss Whedon's crown jewel The Avengers, although what's unknown is where or how the role will fit in the much-reserved screen time. Well, inside the viral marketing site promoting S.H.I.E.L.D's duty in film, a note may indicate at least who from The Avengers' roster he'll share screen time or have affiliation with. The note reads:
Doctor Erik Selvig is currently a sitting professor at Culver University in New York, where he has conducted research in astrophysics for over a decade. NOTE: Selvig was a known assoeciate of Dr. BRUCE BANNER.

Therefore, we can assume Skarsgård will be affiliated with the Hulk's better half, Dr Bruce Banner, play by actor Mark Ruffalo. Another interesting tidbit to that: while Dr. Selvig is a professor at Culver University, in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, it's also where Banner worked as a scientist & where his "monstrous" alter-ego was born.

Next, at this year's annual Kapow! convention, attendees got the chance to speak with famous comic writers & artists. Mike Grover being one of those lucky fans via Whedonesque, he got the opportunity to speak with Bryan Hitch, artist of The Ultimates comic, which is explicitly has influence on The Avengers film. Mike writes:
"I spoke to Bryan Hitch at Kapow, who said he is in regular phone contact with Joss and while he hasn't seen the script due to not wanting to signing a non-disclosure agreement, Joss said he is really struggling to get his stunt extras to perform the feats the team did in the comic. No real surprise there, but what ever the villain(s) I think everyone is excited about this film"

Finally, I recently had contact with an anonymous source, whose affiliated with the set construction for The Avengers. While what was shared isn't too revealing, rather a mild spoiler, what they were at liberty to share with me includes:
"My friend is working on the set design and he said during the first half, the Avengers battle each other and during the final half, they all join together to battle a common foe. And based on a set piece hes working on, a scene takes place in a starship or spaceship that breaks apart."

While this source couldn't verify if the props for this "spaceship/starship" were actually for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, considering it was their "friend" on set, we can instantly assume this ship surrounds extraterrestrial activities. What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston & Stellan Skarsgård, the film releases May 4, 2012!

I'd imagine Whedon or any director struggling with getting the stunts.I'd imagine the stunt guys are struggling to get it down.

Most superhero or action movies in general, has one protagonist fighting other people. This movie is going to have about 6 or 7 protagonist, each with different fighting styles and abilities fighting multiple enemies at the same time. And not only that, the Hulk will be CG, so they'll be fighting a character that isn't actually fully there during filming. That sounds crazy.

And because a lot of the characters have energy based powers, you're going to have actors needing to react to those powers that won't be added until post production.

This has to be one of the most elaborate movies ever filmed.

@ grif- i wouldn't be worried, i bet the hulk will
look very similar to norton's hulk. norton's hulk
looks more like raffalo than norton.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Joss Whedon being in regular contact with the writer of The Ultimates.

I was always a little bit surpised that they cast skargard in a relatively minor role BUT now it seems planned that his character (a little bit like coulson) is intergral to the Marvel Movie Universe.

Kind of makes sense to my pretty little head now :o)

I'm actually a little worried about if they're going to change Iron-Man's look at all. The way he looked in the solo movies is spot on. Since it ain't broke, I hope they don't try to fix it.

i think it is going to be a little difficult selling the notion of the alien skrulls to the average movie goer since we really have never dealt with aliens in a superhero film...however all the solo avenger films seem great (aside from iron man 2, which i disliked and i'm on the presumption of captain america and thor's awesome trailers)....i'll just have to wait and see..

that sounds epic, but it's just that, sound. I need to see it with my bare eyes :D
@word1one
well,It's almost a fact that they will give Iron Man a new armor at some point in the movie:3 armors in IM1,another 3 armors in IM2,they will save the really big guns for The Avengers ;)

I'm now putting the probability that its skrulls at 75%, which is good. Big threat, shape changing madness, confusing making heroes fight each other...its good times all around.

the question is: who against who? all kind of powers and abilities in one place:
Iron Man-Cap
Thor-Hulk
Widow-Hawkeye

:P

I'm hoping they give IM Space flight capabilites for this one. Always liked that when I was a kid. Also wondering if they're gonna do the robot double for Nick Fury. Hope not, its pretty lame.

Knightfall1103 - 4/13/2011, 12:12 PM
I already posted this on another article, but in iron man 1 he modified his armor to withstand freezing temperatures and Jarvis even joked about travel to another planet so two of the avengers (the other probably being Thor) can possibly survive in space so the skrulls are a good possibility

Let's hope so! If it is indeed the Skrulls and we have the potential for some outerspace antics the scope of this movie will be, dare I say it,

EPIC!!!

Now that he mentioned it, I'm wondering how the hulk will look also. Is he gonna be bigger, smaller, greener? Stuff like that.

And I think its time they need to officially release a synopsis for the plot. I mean we need something

I don't know if I can type anything following the "boob" girl. CGI can work wonders when the stunt people can't pull it off. I hope the stunt teams can though. Adds a more real look to movies. Great find.

That 'starship or spaceship' that was mentioned, couldn't that just be the SHIELD Helicarrier?

How epic would it be if the climactic battle was between the Avengers and the Skrulls and took place on the Helicarrier in midair?

@ tazmaniak

That's actually a really good point. Having one actor or stunt man do something on camera is one thing, but getting all the characters on screen fighting? The movie is going to be a nightmare to film, but the payoff will be great! So excited about these movies!
