Now that we know that Jeremy Renner's character Hawkeye won't have his purple costume in The Avengers, but more of a reality-based uniform, in this interview the actor is giving his thoughts on Joss Whedon directing the upcoming adaptation. Also, he shares some more info on what will he have to learn before they start shooting.

"I've known Joss actually for a long while from doing a little arc on Angel, which was fun."

"He's got a very good sensibility. It's a world he knows very well. He kind of gave me an idea of where the character is going. It's all grounded in reality, which is great. It's a character, Hawkeye, that isn't really a superhero — he just has a high skill set. That's something I can also connect to. I just have to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow!"

Filming is set to begin around February, 2011 for a May 4, 2012 release date. Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg are also starring in the big screen adaptation.

Gotta have some Bow action Bro, but I think I wouldn't mind either way...plus I highly doubt he'll use for every situation, mostly on petty thieves and child molesters :)

Could be like punisher and just use the bow for stealth situations

I always thought the later Hawkeye from the Ultimate Avengers looked like Grifter from Wildcats...the old Image comic.

ARG! To re-post from the earlier article:

Bullets don't stop most Avengers villains. Maybe an explosive/sonic/acid/ice arrow would. Hard to fit that tech into a bullet, right? He's just got to have killer reaction time. Look at Legolas in Lord of the Rings and Rambo (thanks, jazzman). Bows are cool, plus I read they are better against body armor, but I don't know if that's true.

BESIDES all that its Hawkeye, not Bullseye, not Punisher. MUST USE BOW.

@OdinsBeard - yes, that really bugged me too.

it's funny that the picture of hawkeye people keep using is from when bullseye was hawkeye in norman's avengers

He should have a cross bow... a small one to fight with... and use the big one for stealth situations.. and he should be quite and kinda in the background but keep coming up with the kill shot for respect...

And yes he should use guns when things get heated...

Hey, I've got an idea? Lets just call this quite, gun-toting, bowless, black-clad character people have been coming up with something OTHER THAN HAWKEYE!

Man, I gotta calm down. Gonna get like LEEE...

FrankLeeGitnit - 9/16/2010, 1:56 PM
He'd still be Hawkeye... but the movie version... He should have more than one weapon is all..

Mass@ lol seriously.

hawkeye should be like a batman who kills. mercilessly. don't forget he was a bad guy first. but yeah, main weapon he should go to first for everything should be his bow. and he should have a multitude of special arrows for different purposes.

How about we go with the arrogant aspect of the character who knows he doesn't need a gun. Anybody can use a gun.

I'd like to point out that for the first 3 GOOD arcs of the Ultimates the character did not use a gun except when it was the only weapon he had.

Wtf? Really? There are people on here that actually don't want to see a bow?

Liking that horrible Ultimate costume is bad enough. But if he doesn't have a bow, there's gonna be a riot.

Seriously. Sometimes I wonder if half you people are secretly Rob Leifeld. Bahahah.

@ OdinsBeard - your not the only one

the end of that makes me happy. "ive got to learn to shoot a bow". i dont think theres any chance that we wouldnt see him using the bow.

TheDarqueOne - 9/16/2010, 3:12 PM
I think it is pretty clear the Bow will be a part of things. But I suspect a weapons master sort of Hawkeye. Very much the Ultimate in terms of look and weapons. Joss has described Hawkeye as a Bow and arrow himself. Will he use the arrows enough to make people here happy? I won't even guess but he will use it.

Besides the whole 'that is a freaking villain pretending to be Hawkeye' above I think the Ultimates look would make a lot more sense.

use the ultimate costumes but keep the bow and arrows

No bow and arrow?? Geez he may as well be good verion Bulleye. But yea i agree with most.. he has to have his bow. Great casting but i think they should of made clint a younger cocky version plus Ranner doesn't seem to Love the character like most actors playing a super hero.. Just my 2 cents
BartonIsHawkeye88
BartonIsHawkeye88 - 9/16/2010, 6:57 PM
@Dopamine. I hear ya. Renner is a great choice, acting wise. He has the right swagger and can pull off the character almost as good as Chris Pine would have :)

BUT... he doesn't have a love/respect for the character that I'd want from the man whose playing my childhood hero.

As for the costume...
As long as it doesn't have camo, guns, or a ski-mask I'll be alright. It'd be nice to see some sort of throwback to the classic costume though. Goggles, perhaps, with a slight point on the corners. Something like what Nite-Owl had in Watchmen, except mimicking the shape of his classic mask

no to boring Ult Hawkeye/Grifter, please and thanks:)

If they're going to give him a more utilitarian look... I say keep a dark, muted purple color scheme. And stick to the bow and trick arrows. C4 Arrow? Check. Taser Arrow? Check. Cryo-Freeze Arrow? Check. Pym-Particle Arrow? Double Freakin Check. He's a one man arsenal.
