Over the past decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown exponentially and keeping track of what movie fits where and when they should take place has become a rather tricky task as a result.
There's also been a handful of discrepancies over the years, with the most noteworthy coming in Spider-Man: Homecoming when we learned that the movie took place eight years after The Avengers, something which would place it squarely in 2020 and after the events of movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.
Well, this officially released timeline clears things up!
1943-45: Captain America: The First Avenger
2010: Iron Man
2011: Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor
2012: The Avengers, Iron Man 3
2013: Thor: The Dark World
2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
2015: Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Ant-Man
2016: Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming
2016 - 2017: Doctor Strange
2017: Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War
As you can see, Iron Man actually took place in 2010 rather than 2008, while Doctor Strange's origin story played out from 2016 - 2017, a year later than originally thought. There are still some inconsistencies, however, with the most noteworthy being Black Panther as that was originally supposed to have taken place a year after Captain America: Civil War despite T'Challa only having just been named King.
