Poll: TDKR VS The Avengers In 2012

Poll: TDKR VS The Avengers In 2012

Both Marvel/Disney and DC/Warner Bros have some heavy hitters on the way. Probably the most anticipated movie's ever from either studio. But casting aside your preferences for a particular comic brand, which movie are you most excited for?

Feature Opinion

It always comes back to Marvel Vs Dc! But maybe it doesn't have to. There is no denying that both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are 2 movies all comic fans are anticipating equally. The Avengers representing a life long dream for many of us; to finally see the world's greatest Marvel heroes gathered together on the screen..under Joss Whedon no less. And while TDKR might just feature one beloved character in Batman, it is the follow up to what many consider the single greatest CBM of all time, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Now, you might think it will be as simple as the Marvel guys for Avengers and DC for Batman. I'm not so sure. There are a wide variety of users on CBM who may prefer a certain brand but appreciate both, or even disregarding an preference recognize how potentially superior one movie may be from the other.

I'm limiting the poll to only two choices, forgoing the usual "Excited for both equally" or some such, we want a clear winner here! So cast your votes, but we want to know in the comments section why you chose the way you did. Loyalty to your favorite brand, a preference for the studio/director, or whatever the reason, lets hear it!

Avengers is more exciting for me. It's just way more epic.

And it looks like we DO have a "excited equally for both"... because it's tied at this point.

The avengers, dont get me wrong, i cant wait to see the TDKR but the avengers is sorta new concept of superheroes on film in terms of what led up to it. So the Avengers for me

I'm looking forward to them both equally. Avengers will probably be a lot of Whedon-y Fun. But Nolan is a master Filmmaker. I'm not taking a side until I see some trailers.

Well, see this is why I did this poll. It would seem to be a no brainer for any CBM fan..The Avengers is the damn Mecca for all of us. But, think about it. We pretty much KNOW Nolan will deliver a great movie..as awesome as The Avengers sounds, we know nothing for certain. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't more excited to find out though:)

OH MAN...come on. That's an impossible choice! lol

I mean .... wow. I'm more into The Avengers, but we're talking about the follow up to TDK.

I feel certain TDKR will be an awesome movie. Avengers probably will be too..

it has to be the avengers, all those heroes in one movie for the first time by a company that knows a thing or two about comics.

got to be the winner.

the dark knight rises is just the 7th batman film since 1989,nolan films are good but not great.

i'm more excited for the avengers than another batman.

TDKR is going to b a gr8 film as long as it dsnt fall in2 the trilogy curse, and avengers is the biggest event in CBM history and truely opens the gates for future comic book movies. I will have to side with avengers on that basis

Definitely The Dark Knight Rises for me. Frankly, all the Avengers tie ins for Thor and Iron Man 2 detracted from those movies for me. That said, I loved Thor, but mainly when it was about Thor and his family. Iron Man 2 was disappointing to me, but I also really enjoyed the first one. Incredible Hulk was okay for me.

With those ups and downs in mind, combined with the degree of difficulty Joss Whedon faces in giving every one of these alpha male characters his fair share, I just think TDKR is more of a sure thing. And that makes it more exciting for me right now. Chris Nolan is just consistently great at what he does and TDKR's cast is as impressive if not more so. It just depends on the story really. And we already know that they want to "wrap things up." I always look forward to a good ending.

Other than the genre, these are two very different films.

I'm looking forward to both, but I wouldn't compare a JLA film to Iron Man 3.

Hey u should add a "doesnt matter they're both going to blow me away" choice! I mean i didn't even vote because i can't choose. Nolan VS. Marvel. Batman and Bane take it out in Gotham vs. ACTUALLY SEEING the Avengers on screen together?!??!??! For me too tough to call

where is The Amazing Spider-man? "P

again I must say, these two movies aren't competing each other but themselves.
While TDKR is the sequel to biggest and according to majority BEST cbm ever TDK,it has to live up to mega tonnes of expectations and this time Nolan doesn't have The Best and last(the death of ledger was responsible for 100% hype of the movie and its opening.)CBM performance ever,he has lot to live upto. And barring LOTR3,none of 3quels have been great.

On the other hand Avengers still seems impossible.for starters how can they pull of such a movie for an budget less than $200mill?

Spider-man reboot has a lot to live upto too.Its not a rebbot a 4 yr old franchise but a reboot of a mega succesful series.

My vote goes to :Avengers.
Avengers Assemble.

You know personally I'm on the fence about this. TDK was simply one of the greatest, if not the greatest CBM. and we all know Nolan... well he's fricken Nolan. But with avengers we allknow the action is going to blow anything TDKR has to Offer out Of the water. Not because TDKR isn't going to be great but well batman doesn't exactly posses the power of thunder or have a billion dollar super suit. So action wise avengers will beat out TDKR but as far as story and getting to the audiance on a more effective level... Nolan and his dark knight has a BIG leg up on the avengers. So I think its just all about what you prefer. Once again not saying Joss' avengers won't have an epic story line also but I think it will be more about showcasing powers than the main story so Nolans TDKR gets mine!

Batman for me. Avengers will be very exciting indeed but Batman just takes the cake. It will probably be the most watched of the two. I dont know how Avengers will work as a film. Whedon is a hit or miss kinda guy.

PapaEmeritus - 6/4/2011, 11:13 AM
wahahah! This poll makes me laugh! That was easy one! Of course, it's more than obvious that TDKR is the most anticipated, not only as CBM, but in general movie genres!

I cannot wait for either. I'm just slightly more excited for TDKR because it is the last movie of the trilogy. There will be more Avengers movies after the Avengers and more individual films for those heroes. But this is the last Batman in the Nolan universe and I cannot wait to see how it ends

TDKR!
The Avengers is an introdution,

But The Dark Knight Rises is a CONCLUSION. A climax to (arguably) the best CBM's ever made.

So hands down TDKR.

It's really close, but The Avengers has the guaranteed awesome factor of seeing these characters together. I love The Dark Knight and Christopher Nolan has proven to be reliable, but with little knowledge of the plot, the pressence of Catwoman, and the possibility of the Lazarus pit, TDKR is more of a question mark for me presently because I don't know what I'm going to get with it. I'm excited to see what they're doing with TDKR and my opinion may change after SDCC, but we'll see. I imagine Avengers will be more exciting and entertaining wile TDKR will probably be a better movie overall.
TheDetectiveComicRises
TheDetectiveComicRises - 6/4/2011, 11:54 AM
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 4 me. Batman movies are phenominal! I like the Avengers but I really don't want Downy Jr.'s Tony Stark to ruin the movie with the over doing jokes like he did in IM 2, I mean I like the way Stark is in the comics and animated, cool, suave and laid back. But again I gotta go with TDKR I mean Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne the ultimate crimefighter/detective/multibillionaire playboy, One of the best directors Nolan and the great cast!

The Avengers will have much action but The Dark Knight Rises will have great action and an even better storyline. I like Marvel movies but sometimes I think they need a better storyline for example Spider-man 2, X2, & Thor had great storylines but looking back @ DC Superman 1 & 2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, V for Vendetta & Red had great storylines and as Bale said you can have all the great action in the world but if you do not have a great story line it doesn't mean a thing, so I got TDKR!

AVENGERS! Anybody here who has ever read any of my articles can probably figure out both of my main reasons why.

claybo4131
claybo4131 - 6/4/2011, 12:13 PM
Avengers, for many reasons.

Its something different. Crossover events do not really happen in movies albiet FF-Silver Surfer, Freddy V Jason, Alien V Predator. This movie has been talked about since 2008, talk about it was even before Dark Knight was released, the talks heated up in June 2008.

4 A List heroes teaming up, its not just a movie, its an event.

Dark KNight Rises is what the 7th Batman film since 1989? First off, Dark Knight was a good film, but I think people have blown the movie out of proportion by comparing EVERY CBM to it, And of course WB/DC is light years away from doing a JLA movie.

gaikinger - 6/4/2011, 12:14 PM
I'm personally not a DC fan and mainly read Iron Man, Avengers, and crossover events like Civil War, Fear Itself etc. That being said, these two films allthough similar in that they are comic book adaptions to film belong on two totally different playing fields. Avengers i hope will be a great film but i think it will be The Dark Knight that we all find the most stirring, haunting, and rememberable. In the end it always comes down to story and Direction and at this the Nolans are truly artists. I think Whedon has done some really great stuff with Serenity being his stand out but come on....Whedon and Nolan? If we're betting money its a no-brainer. I really enjoyed Thor alot and would have loved to see Branagh direct the Avengers as his sequel...i really would have liked that.

LuckyKyd - 6/4/2011, 12:31 PM
Great poll Ror, and I gotta say this is a tough one. But in the end for me it all comes down to which one of those I can live without. And I have to say that must be The Dark Knight Rises, as much as I want to see what Nolan do with his last Batman movie, I don't think it is gonna be as essential to the genre as a movie sporting 5 superheroes(with Hulk 6) working together to safe earth.

So The Avengers it is, but I'm still just as psyched for The Dark Knight Rises, though. :)
