It's been several weeks since
Iron Man 2 hit theaters, and Marvel fans are hungrier than ever to see their comic book heroes grace the silver screen. Marvel characters Thor and Captain America will be the next to have their feature film debuts; with both of their films set for theatrical release only two months apart in the summer of 2011. It's already apparent that those two films, as well as both
Iron Man movies and
The Incredible Hulk are merely pieces of a grand puzzle that will not be completed until Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers, assemble in 2012.
Though
The Avengers movie is still several several years away, Marvel Studios seems to know exactly where they are headed with it. It shouldn't be too hard since they will use their previous five films to build up it's story and introduce it's vast array of characters to movie going audiences.
The latest rumors regarding the ensemble superhero film comes from AvengersNews, which have offered a few updates from one of their sources:
- "The Avengers" will not be filming until first quarter 2011.. and will not be the main focus until “Captain America: The First Avenger” is wrapped.
- The Avengers film does not have a complete script. It is currently being tweaked and perfected to make sure the film emphasizes the core Avengers group and has a great story that will please the audience.
- Marvel continually meets with actors to sign them and place them in films when they find a fit for them.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Meaning, actors the studio specifically want could be put on retainer for roles that they are unaware of, since the roles may be modified during script rewrites}
So when should fans expect to hear more official news from the studio itself about
The Avengers? 2010 San Diego Comic Con International, of course. The site's sources says that, on top of the obvious information that will be released regarding
Thor and
Captain America, fans will have answers to
"some questions about the stories main influence, villains and new addition to the character roster."
