We also have rare pieces of artwork showing alternate designs for the Quinjet, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Thor's arrival on Earth and more! There's even storyboards for some of the movie's best fight scenes.

Can you believe it's been nearly six years since The Avengers was released? When the movie hit theaters, it was nothing short of groundbreaking but it seems almost tame by today's standards; just look at how many characters Avengers: Infinity War has in comparison! With that on the horizon, we've decided to take a look at the incredible concept art which made its predecessors a reality.

These rarely seen pieces of concept art and photos provide a fascinating glimpse into just how different The Avengers could have been and after kicking things off with a look at the Battle for New York and alternate costumes for each member of the team, we're now delving into a number of action scenes, different takes on the Helicarrier and Quinjet, Stark Tower, and much more besides.

We also have storyboards and keyframes offering an in-depth look at the battle between Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, one of the coolest moments in the movie by far. Many of these amazing pieces of artwork have never actually been seen online before now, so click either one of the buttons to check out the list of artwork in its entirety and then let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

Thor Vs. Iron Man

Thor comes to blows with Iron Man in this awesome piece of artwork in a moment which is sure to remind comic book fans of their epic comic book clash shortly after the events of Civil War took place.

"Hulk Smash!"

After clashing with Thor, The Hulk escapes the Helicarrier and leaps into oncoming fire from a fighter pilot, something we all know ultimately backfires on that poor soul who crossed the Jade Giant.

The Quinjet

The Quinjet started life off as a vehicle The Avengers essentially hijacked to take into battle against Loki and making it part of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a clever way to incorporate the plane in the movie.

The Destroyer Repurposed

The gun Agent Coulson used to take down Loki shortly after being stabbed by the villain, his demise would bring Earth's Mightiest Heroes together and lead to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.

The God Of Mischief Stands Tall

This awesome piece of artwork shows the process which went into bringing Loki to life on the big screen and he looks pretty damn intimidating here as he stands with Thanos' staff in hand.

Thor Threatens Loki

Thor isn't happy to see Loki here and proceeds to threaten him with Mjolnir as we see a thunderstorm raging in the background. This would have been a very cool visual to see on the big screen!

The Helicarrier

Bringing the Helicarrier to the big screen was a technical feat and Marvel needed to find a good balance between sci-fi and real-life. As you can see, the studio went through a lot of different designs!

Loki Arrives On Earth

The God of Mischief definitely looked a little worse for wear when he arrived on Earth at the start of The Avengers but this concept art points to his journey through the cosmos being even rougher.

Stark Tower

Stark Tower was an idea lifted straight out of the comic books and, as you can see, it underwent some big changes throughout the designs process before it became known as Avengers Tower.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel clearly went through a lot of different designs for the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the comic books serving as clear inspiration. What we ended up with was rather grounded, unfortunately.

Captain America Vs. Thor

Captain America is no match for Thor but his shield proves to be enough to hold off Mjolnir so you have to wonder what Thanos will end up doing to shatter it in Avengers: Infinity War or its sequel.

A Different Take On Loki's Arrival

This shows a slightly different take on Loki's arrival. As you can see, it appears as if it may have been slightly more clandestine at one stage because no one appears to have noticed him showing up!

Thor Tracks Down Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Thor's arrival in The Avengers was heralded by lightning and this artwork shows us the work which went into imagining how the God of Thunder might end up arriving on top of the Quinjet.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes Go To War

As you can see, the epic battle between Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor was storyboarded out in great detail and it pretty much played out on screen exactly as we see in this artwork.

Loki, God of Mischief

Marvel clearly always had a very specific idea in mind for how Loki should look in the movie and the studio's concept artists went through quite a few different but very regal designs for the villain.

Iron Man Vs. Thor, Round II

This gorgeous piece of artwork by Andy Park shows what happens when one of Iron Man's repulsor rays winds up hitting Mjolnir. It's an awesome sight and we all know what ended up coming next!

I really enjoyed the forest fight scene in Avengers. Maybe because it was seeing them on screen at the same time. Cap showing his worth!

I'd love animated films that adapt concept art. Like an Avengers film that does it's BEST to adapt and craft exact visuals of some of the concept art.

@BlackBeltJones - Jesus that is awesome. Basically shows everything that made it my favorite MCU film so far (Think BP will take that spot in a month).

I say that THE AVENGERS is the best experience for a long-time Marvel fan. It just works in every way. Not to mention its awesome inspirations:

The Ultimates & The Ultimates 2
The Avengers issue #1
Culmination of MCU Phase One films
Fellowship of the Ring
Transformers 3's amazing final battle

I think all filmmakers who work on superhero teamup films should watch and take note from The Avengers.

@MarDCel -

I mean, it's the closest thing to Star Wars that this generation has. That's saying a lot.

You know what I don't understand? Im Avengers Thor tells Couldson "When I first arrived on Earth Lokis rage followed me here"

But hasn't Thor been on Earth in the past? If not where did all those Norse mythology stories come from then in the MCU?
Bokis

@Primordiac - The whole mythology around the Asgardians in the MCU is kinda murky... I mean, in one movie they are gods, in the next one they are just powerful aliens. How can Thor be a recognized God in mythology if he is young, brash and new to earth in the first film? How old is Odin? Not hating, just one of the aspects I would've liked the movies to be more clear on

The art with Thor on top of Loki as lightning strikes boom in the distance is GORGEOUS. I would've loved a shot of this translated to film.

to bad the movies dont look this epic, they are all filmed llike they are TV movies and all the sets are tiny with cgi backgrounds.

If marvel was smart, they would want each film to be as epic as it can be. All three lord of the rings films cost less to make than one marvel movie.

They just built models and used older filmmaking techniques mixed with modern ones. But everything in marvel films look like they came off a toy assembly line.

@Re1Agent - Highly disagree with the statement that all of their films look cheap.
