Earlier this month, the Japanese trailer for Marvel's The Avengers confirmed that Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts would play some sort of role in Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble. Here's what the actress had to say about what has been going on with Pepper since we last saw her in Iron Man 2. "At the end of ‘Iron Man 2,’ Pepper and Tony had a real kiss, which was great because they had been building it up for two films. So in ‘The Avengers,’ the idea is that they’re heading somewhere, but it hasn’t, shall we say, consummated yet."

However, it was Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) who convinced Marvel Studios to bring back Pepper for The Avengers as he sees her as a vital part of the progression of his character. "When we were in the first of several iterations of the storyline, the only thing I was sure about was that Tony Stark needed backup." He added: "I said to Joss and Kevin, ‘We really need Pepper to be involved in some way.’ I felt like it’s been a while since we have seen Tony and Pepper and they have grown to be pretty close and it just makes sense that she would have some kind of influence over his decision to join ‘The Avengers’ team."

I wonder if Betty Ross or Jane Foster will be in the movie? I dont think so.

After what happen in the movie Thor, you would think that Thor himself would want to go see Jane when he gets back on Earth.

I like that he thought she would influence his joining of the team.
Just makes it more convincing I think.

I don't think Betty will show up, but maybe Jane since I guess she's doing research I guess under shields "protection".

I'm really curious how they'll handle the Jane Foster situation.

So RDJ thinks Pepper is more vital than Liv Tyler's and Natalie Portman's character? Plus, it hasn't been awhile since we last saw them. Iron Man 2 came out two years ago! Seems like ego got in the way a little bit here. Don't get me wrong I'm glad she's back, I just don't like that it was done this way.

I hope they AT LEAST mention or reference what's happened to Betty since TIH and also maybe Thor mention that he has or is planning to see Jane. Or in some down time they can all be talking about their women.. haha.. With Cap feeling sad that his is probably dead or old .

The prequel comics, as well as the official site, indicate that the Avengers takes place at least 2 years after Thor/Iron Man 2/TIH.

For Iron Man and Pepper, that's quite some time to have not seen how their relationship developed.

For Thor, it could possibly mean that this is not his first time back, so Jane isn't a pressing matter for him at the moment.

Banner is sorta still a fugitive in the eyes of the public probably so they cold get around him seeing Betty pretty easily, Thor looks to be introduced part way through the film so if he starts off right in the thick of it they could also make sense of him not going to Jane until it's over. However i would like to see her at the end or at least Thor mention that he is going to see her.

@PyroDude93 o yeah she is working with SHIELD in some capacity right? So im sure they would know where she is. maybe they make a deal with Thor that he has to help save the world first and then after he can see her.

I'm glad they're incorporating the "girlfriends" into the film. I do have to wonder about Betty Ross and Jane Foster, though. It's unlikely that Betty will be in it, but I'd imagine that Banner would mention her at some point. Also, what about Betty's father? I would think that his role in "The Incredible Hulk" would transfer over to "The Avengers", especially after his scene with RDJ. As for Jane, I don't think she'll be in the film. From what we've seen and heard so far, it seems like Thor will first appear when he lands on the Quinjet. I hope that's not the case, as I really would like a good explanation for how Thor gets to Earth. Maybe his father? Or another wormhole? Something has to be explained. And I hope they explain the reason that Thor isn't looking for Jane at the moment.

Neither will be in the Avengers though I would not doubt their names will be mentioned as well as Gen Ross. Eric Selvig or Thor will mention Foster and Banner may talk to Widow about his love interest in Ross ehile their are flying in Quinjet back to the Helicarrier

I think Thor has bigger things on his mind, like his family. He wants to get his brother back or at least resolved before he goes looking for his woman. And Ross? Well Banner may trust her but he knows she is not safe with him near her. That was what Hulk figured out at the end of Incredible Hulk, he is too dangerous to be around her and he puts her in harms way. Pepper makes sense because her and Tony's relationship is well established and Pepper is well, Pepper is Tony's conscience. Tony as Tony is well, he's a selfish self centered dick. Tony when around Pepper, well he's still a dick but he's a dick who oddly listens to what she says even though sometimes he won't follow it.

Love to see them back but right now? The other two do not fit in the situation. And poor Peggy, well..she dead or a wrinkled old mess.

well..if the movie's duration is at least 160 minutes or so, as hoped by us all, i'm super sure that many of the solo movies' main supporting cast will make, at least, cameo appearances.

- Natalie Portman as Jane is the most definite one, cuz, yeah..if Thor's back on earth, SHE will be the one person he'd most wanna see, in the midst of all the chaos caused by Loki.

- Gwyneth as Pepper, is a given, since the team would spend quite a lot of time at the Stark Tower. and she, as a high ranking employee, would definitely be seen around.

- Liv as Betty, would be welcome..aside to giving a sense of 'continuity' from Norton's to Ruffalo's Banner..that the latter's just continuing the former in playing the role. but, to actually put her in the avengers' storyline might be tricky. much trickier than say...

- William Hurt as Gen. Ross. He shares a scene with RDJ's Tony at the end of TIH, and was mentioned by Coulson in "The Consultant" short, so, his character's pretty significant in the forming of this team. Plus, as a general, who seems to be really involved in this type of super crisis, it's only natural to see him fight along the Avengers and Nick Fury's SHIELD against Loki and his alien army. right..??

- it'll be nice to see Jon Favreau, reprising Happy, in the briefest cameo, too, by the way.. i mean, he did help jump start this whole thing, after all.

oh, yeah...and don't forget Cap's rumored modern day girlfriend-to-be, Amanda Righetti as SHARON Carter, Peggy's future grand niece, or something.

i wonder, if that's the case, how big will her role in The Avengers be?

Id love to see portman return and Tyler but I think if actresses as big as them were ever on the set, somebody would have tweeted about it or said something in an interview I mean that's how we found out Paltrow was in the film a few months ago

So happy Pepper is going to be in the movie.
She DESERVES to be there.

It's only a small part, but I wish we could see kind of ...
a meeting with Pepper, Jane Foster and Betty Ross! ... what the hell, throw in Darcy too. :D
