VIDEO: Edward Norton and Tim Blake Nelson on Avengers ...and More!

Questions asked regarding the Avengers during a sit down with actor Edward Norton, along with director and co-star Tim Blake Nelson, for their new film LEAVES OF GRASS. Among things learned... Sites like CBM do indeed affect the suits decisions at the studios!

Alas, the nerd in me could not resist going off topic for my last question to discuss the future of Bruce Banner and the jolly green giant. After all, Norton and Nelson did also co-star in 2008’s THE INCREDIBLE HULK, so I found it only fitting to carpe the diem while I had both of these gentlemen in the flesh. Luckily, I didn’t make Norton angry...you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

Quite the opposite in fact, as both actors were more than willing to talk openly and honestly about their experience in the Marvel universe with THE INCREDIBLE HULK, their own comic book fandom, and of course the future of the character, including any potential involvement with THE AVENGERS. Hell, we even talked about THE DARK KNIGHT!

Although there have been no agreements, I am uber excited to see Ed Norton Reprise his role. I hope that Marvel scoops him back up for the Avengers and another Hulk movie. You gotta love a guy who wants appreciates the characters and stories for what they are, which is BRILLIANT.

I hope Leader at least gets a reference in Avengers. But I would lovingly jizz if he teamed up with Loki and there was a big fight at the end, Star Wars style with half the team fighting Leader and the other half fighting Loki.

Nice to see Norton more positive about Avengers. And TBN looked high in the beginning :)

I love when actors care about the superhero roles they are playing because they enjoy the book and not just do these movies to make money.

Its going to happen, i mean come on look at the facts of the hulk movie leaders origin, tony stark saying there puting the avengers together, ether to stop the hulk or in the long run stop the leader, mandarin, loki and red skull.
Also abomination mite show plus if u look at the iron man 2 trailer at the end i think there fighting in some oriental area which could be linked to the mandarin and fing fang foom

if the world ends in 2012 then they are going to keep us distracted with the avengers and batman 3 while they put all the important people on boats and space ships and shit lmao

The Hulk will be in the Avengers.. the CGI Hulk and Lou Ferrigno voice (he was already reported as being cast)

The question is will Ed Norton/Bruce Banner be there...

I'm with Tyler on the subject of the Leader. We last saw Sam Sterns' head starting to mutate at the end of Incredible Hulk and it would be a terrific waste not to take that and run with it. You have a character who's origin's already been told so that's half a movie's run-time saved and to have him in league with Loki would make good dramatic sense and a hell of a smack-down climax.
Here's hoping we really do have some effect on the movies, contributing to sites like this - we all know the subject matter so much better than the shirts holding the money.

@Tyler: That would be awesome! Because at that point, we'd have already seen Loki, and they've set up the Leader - it would make perfect sense :)

And I have the gayest crush on Edward Norton. Not really. But I absolutely love the guy to a point that my orientation is nearly compromised. He's one of the greatest actors of our generation. He better be in the Avengers!

Norton is completely right. Whoever is at the helm of this project needs to have complete artistic control. The Incredible Hulk was great, but the original vision that Leterrier and Norton had (more back story and a little darker) would have been brilliant.

The most interesting aspect of the Avengers movie for me is how all these great individual characters are going to interact with each other. Sure, the incredible action is pretty much guaranteed but the story is going to have to be rock solid. It would be great to see some shots of them actually bonding, and learning to trust each other.

Norton definitely has to feature. The complete cast looks great together -

@StarSapphire: I LOVE Death to Smoochy. Hilarious movie about the dark side of the children's PBS (Barney, Tella-Tubbies, Sessamie Street). Get a video of Ed singing "We will get you off that smack oh yes we will." And the part where they're all like "Uh... it's a rocket ship!"

You can tell by his facial expressions in the video that Ed is still salty about TIH.

Id love Tim Roth to come back. And id love them to use The Leader

Only thing about the Leader is that though they showed him in the film the reason was so that when they did a sequel he can be the villain. But they are not doing another one.. at least not yet.

Hopefully they wont forget about him but i wouldnt think its a sure bet yet.

my idea for a hulk trilogy
1.the abomination
2.the leader & the abomination
3.wolverine
the thrid film being hulk vs wolverine its great way to pay homage to wolverine first appearence which was in the incredible hulk.

@deadpool72 .. so your hoping the X-Men franchise will have gone bust and Marvel have gotten rights back from fox by then.

i hope so too.. but with another three films on the table it would be AT LEAST a decade before they could be the rights back

i hope The Leader doesn't show up in The Avengers. they have so many bad ass enemy's to choose from, why would you use one of Hulks enemy's instead.

Excellent interview.

He has to be on board for the Avengers - Hulk is more than just CGI - he's Banner, mad; and Norton is Banner.

They need every actor's input into the personality of their characters - so RDJ, CH, CE, SLJ & EN will be able to give their feedback on how their characters would react, what they would say (or not say) in certain situations - a true collaboration between the writers, the director and the actors. There's more chance of the characters behaving and reacting like they should and therefore a better film overall (as long as there's no oneupmanship ofc). IMO.

Come up with a kick-ass story (which we already have a broad outline of from the comics), an imaginative and collaborative director and you have a recipe for greatness.

Easy. ;)

Norton for Banner/Hulk in Avengers!!! (And The Incredible Hulk 2 Please!!!!)

Tim Blake Nelson for Leader in The Avengers!!!

Marvel Studio execs, please look at this forum and take note, we want Ed Norton for Bruce Banner/Hulk!!!!!!
KeithM
KeithM - 3/28/2010, 2:16 PM
Edit: I don't see The Leader featuring in The Avengers, but for sure he'll be in the Hulk sequel WHEN (not if) they get around to doing it. Look at the positive feedback for TIH - amongst us, the 'core'. It's a no-brainer. When, not if.
KeithM
KeithM - 3/28/2010, 2:21 PM
Edit2: The sequel for TIH should NOT be called TIH2 btw - it should reflect the story, like "World War Hulk" or "Planet Hulk" or whatever... (just in case anybody IS listening) ;)
Paulley
Paulley - 3/28/2010, 2:42 PM
I think the should call it TIH 2 just so you dont confuse those people that might think its another reboot.

Those same people that got it in there head that TIH was a sequel to HULK.. silly ppl lol

The first part of the Avengers will probably be bringing Cap back and recruiting the rest of the team. Then at the end, they will take on the Hulk. Then towards the end, they will probably gear up to take on an A-list baddie. Probably have gears in motion during movie. Might have a cliffhanger as well. It's going to rock regardless.

Paralyz3dxD - 3/28/2010, 3:01 PM
I agree with KeithM, everyone should have their own input and whoever they pick as the director should make sure to listen to not only the actors but all of the directors inputs as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they put together a director team for it with all of them.
Ryden
Ryden - 3/28/2010, 3:06 PM
I think Leader will get a refrence in Avengers, they're'll probably be a seen where banner talks to one of the Avengers and he mentions Sterns and how he's not seen him since the fight with Abomination. Thenthe year after INCREDIBLE HULK 2 or whatever title they deem nessasary. I don't want to see a specific storyline from the comics though, just do an awesome sequel.

@ paulley loving your fury avatar.
would be a dream come true if marvel got all their franchises back from fox & sony.
we might get decent marvel films that are more of what the fans want to see,not what some prick in a suit saying " i've got an idea."
& ruining something that we have all grown to love.
1.decent x-men films
2.fantasic four
3.spider-man
just think of the stories that could be done.
