If Batfleck decides to boogie on out of the DCEU, then it will need a worthy successor. At this point, I think that it is highly unlikely that they cast young, to keep a smooth transition into an actor about the same age as our current Batman. WB has a huge decision to make, so who's it gonna be?
5. Eric Bana
We know Bana can play angry in Hulk, and there has been enough time between that film and now to where he could be due for a fresh start. Affleck played Daredevil, so why can’t Bana make the same Marvel to DC conversion?
4. Armie Hammer
As much as he was rumored to play Green Lantern in Justice League, Hammer was nowhere to be found. After being cast in Justice League: Mortal and then production shutting down, Hammer’s name has always been tossed in the ring as a worthy candidate. Physically he fits in perfect, I’m just unsure of the acting range. The report will Cavill would definitely be one of the pros to this casting and his upcoming role in Call Me By Your Name should boost his popularity going into next year. Personally, I think he would be a better fit for Hal Jordan.
3. Josh Duhamel
He has the size and the looks, but does he have the acting chops? WB has shown that they are not afraid to cast TV actors (Zachary Levi as Shazam). Duhamel would need to prove he can go into a darker character role, but I think he could pull it off. This is my sleeper pick if the studios decide to go away from the Hollywood A-List.
2. Jake Gyllenhaal
I put him high on this list only because the rumors about him taking over are overwhelming at this point. Personally, I think he would make a great Bruce Wayne, but may not be able to pull the cowl off. He would definitely have to change his voice up a bit, and make sure the cowl covers up that lip mole. One thing is for sure though, seeing him in Southpaw leaves no room for concern about him getting shredded for the role. He also checks the box of Hollywood A-Lister, which WB may be targeting like they did with Affleck.
1. Jon Hamm
Here he is, essentially the unanimous fan choice to take over as Batman. He has the look, he has the age, and he has the attitude. He showed he can put on the fake smile act and go to some pretty dark places as Dom Draper. The only thing holding him back is the superhero films don’t seem to be his cup of tea. He has mentioned many times that he’s just not that interested, but maybe the right story pitch by Reeves can bring him into the fold and stay there for the upcoming future of the DCEU.
