BATGIRL Set Video Reveals Christmas Setting And Features Some Deep-Cut DC Comics Easter Eggs

Shooting on Batgirl continues in Glasgow, Scotland, and a new video reveals a lot of deep-cut DC Comics Easter Eggs and apparent confirmation the movie is going to be set during Christmas in Gotham City.

Glasgow, Scotland is currently being transformed into Gotham City as work on Batgirl continues, and a newly surfaced video reveals that the HBO Max movie is set during Christmas (we'd be willing to bet money on the DC Comics adaptation landing on the streaming service around the holidays).

A snowy Gotham should definitely be good fun to spend time in, and we're excited to see what sort of visuals directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah play with in that Christmastime setting.

The user behind this TikTok video also shares some insight into the Easter Eggs they've spotted on set. Black Canary gets a couple of mentions, while we also see a much better look at a poster seemingly depicting the villainous Dr. Hugo Strange. Elsewhere, there's a department store that appears to be owned by Tony Bressi, a Gotham City gangster in the comic books. Sundollar Coffee, meanwhile, is the DC Universe's version of Starbucks.

Batgirl feels like a movie that's really paying homage to the comic books, and the mural featuring Michael Keaton's Batman and an unknown Boy Wonder still has us intrigued. It appears the DC Extended Universe now has a Robin, though there's still no word on what plans, if any, Warner Bros. has for the iconic sidekick.

It would be a missed opportunity not to set the stage for Nightwing or Red Hood in the DCEU, though.

Batgirl will be released on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

“and the mural featuring Michael Keaton's Batman and an unknown Boy Wonder still has us intrigued.”

I said this on the previous article but no one seemed to pick up on it.
The Robin in that mural is straight up lift from a Robin cover Kaare Andrews did. It’s a previously published cover. So while there may be an indication of a Robin in this continuity, that art isn’t representative of what Robin will really look like.

This also leads me to believe the Batman in that image is also taken from some other published art. Hence the white eyes and pouches on the utility belt.

A Batgirl movie featuring Batman, Commissioner Gordon (both played by talented returning actors) and apparently Dick Grayson/Robin in the mix as well. Despite it seeming a bit confusing continuity wise, this might honestly still be the Bat-family film I've been waiting for. Obviously it will come down to the tone and the script, but so far this seems to actually have some potential. Fingers crossed.
