J.K Simmons has found himself in something of a unique position with his comic book movie roles in recent years. After playing J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, he was enlisted to return as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Variant of The Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief: a similar blowhard, albeit one who shared his hatred for Spidey via TheDailyBugle.net.
We saw that play out in Spider-Man: No Way Home last December, but it won't be Simmons' only brush with the Multiverse. The actor starred as Commissioner Jim Gordon in Justice League, and will return as the character in Batgirl, a movie that takes place in a new DC Extended Universe where Ben Affleck's Batman has been replaced with the Caped Crusader portrayed by Michael Keaton.
Confusing, right?
In the video below, Simmons admits that while he loves being part of the Marvel and DC Multiverses, he's not sweating the details. "It's super cool to be, and for there to be room in the Marvel Universe, as we've seen, and in the DC Universe for these alternative universes or realities or whatever they are, I don't know," Simmons acknowledged. "I have no idea."
"They write a script and I learn the lines and the director says, 'Stand over there.'"
At the same time, Simmons was asked if he's seen The Batman yet - where Jeffrey Wright plays Commissioner Gordon - and he responded, "No, not yet," adding: "I will very soon."
