UPDATE: Joss Whedon Is Still On Board To Direct BATGIRL And Is Currently Working On The Script

Earlier today, a rumor did the rounds that claimed director Joss Whedon was no longer involved with the planned Batgirl movie from WB, but EW's sources have now confirmed that this is not the case....

Given the recent controversy surrounding Joss Whedon and the fact that the Justice League movie he worked on is underperforming, it wouldn't be too hard to believe if The Avengers director  wound up parting ways with his planned Batgirl Movie. So, when a rumor broke earlier today claiming that this very thing had happened, it didn't seem too far fetched.

However, EW has now reached out to their sources and confirmed that Whedon is still very much involved with the project and is currently hard at work on the script.

Of course, this doesn't mean that situation can't or won't change at some point (the DCEU doesn't seem like the most stable of franchises, after all), but as of right now, Joss Whedon's Batgirl is still a thing.

Releasing a female-led movie only to have it boycotted by feminists seems like a good plan.

I'd be cool with him writing, if someone else directs and polishes. But maybe he'll surprise me.

@Philip - whats wrong with him directing, before he did the Buffy TV series, every one of his scripts were butchered by other directors, with the exception of Toy Story.

@dracula - I'm not a fan of his directing style, to be honest.

Cool. Wish he was working on a more important movie, but if they want to appeal to chicks, this is 1000x better than Harley.

Outside of doing Superman right, Joss and WB [frick]ed up JL and I say this as someone who isn't a Snyder fan.

What would you include the same joke you did in AOU and a scene of Batman asking Aquaman if he could ask the fish if they've seen Steppenwolf over a scene that's the same length where Cyborg learns to fly? Those 2 things Joss added didn't move the plot forward

But considering Cyborg is unfamiliar with his suit, him learning to fly feels like progression.
