Kiefer Sutherland Talks Almost Being Cast As Robin And The 24 Movie Script

Kiefer Sutherland sat down to talk about his newest television series Touch when he revealed that he was almost cast as Robin in Tim Burton's Batman and talked about the 24 Movie script.

Most of us know Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, the ass kicking CTU agent who has a love for the word Damnit. According to Sutherland, who chatted with On The Box, we could have known him by another character he was asked to play......Robin. "I’d just finished Stand By Me and Young Guns about the time that Warner Brothers were making the first Batman film with Michael Keaton and I got a call which asked me if I would be interested in playing Robin. I was like: ‘as in Robin with tights? No!’", he explained. He went on to say that he didn't know that they were going to make the coolest movie ever, and that they didn't use a Robin in the film but his agent probably could have helped him out.

One thing that has been going on for a long time that seems to finally be getting done is the creation of the 24 movie. Sutherland is set to reprise his role as Jack Bauer in the film that is rumored to be shooting this May even though it doesn't have a director. He said doing a 24 movie was the last thing on his mind but felt like he owed it to Peter Chernin(Chairman of 20th Century Fox when 24 started) to read the script."At page 32 I was like ‘shit!’. I hoped that maybe it would get worse as I went on, but unfortunately it just got better." Sutherland then went on to say that 24 has taught him to work on opportunities schedule citing missing out on Tim Burton's Batman and My Private Idaho as examples of him doing something like a vacation instead of taking a good movie role.

I think he would have made a good Quasar or Nova if he was just a tad younger.

It wouldn't have been the coolest movie ever if Robin was in it.

As Robin No...Not if they went with the storyline they had in mind with the origin and everything. Watching it on the Blu-Ray collectors set, Robin would of had to been just a little kid for the movie. It would have turned out just like it did with O'Donnell in Batman Forever, Sutherland would have been too old to be Robin with an origin and everything.

And don't forget, even during the Era of Stand By Me/Young Guns, Sutherland was still probably in his mid twenties if not a bit older most likely. Again it would have turned into the Old Dick we got with O'Donnell in Batman Forever.

OH MAN

A Tim Burton version of Robin would have been awesome. It would have done for Robin what Frank Miller did for Batman, I've no doubt.

I like how Joel represents Robin. I'm not saying that his movies was good but,Robin came out as an cocky asshole and I kinda like it.

Burton wanted Robin for Batman Returns. Marlon Waynes was cast, but they cut Robin to be able to add the villain Christopher Walken.

I have an earlier draft of the script for the Burton Batman that had Robin in it. It was the same as the movie up until Vikki Vales apartment, from there it was totally different because my version has a Robin. As good as Batman was, the script was MUCH BETTER.

Robin was well written and alot badder. It was also before they cast Keaton and there were parts where they had to change it because Keaton couldn't pull off the physical parts. The first change in the script was Bruce broke a chair he was tied to by flexing his muscles and breaking it over his body. There is no way you could believe this with Keaton.

If you read my script, you could see a 1989-1991 Southerland in the part. It would have been great.

I think Kiefer just made it clear if you give him tights of any kind, he's saying no. There goes my hopes of Jack Bauer having to dress as a ballerina to avoid capture before snapping the neck of a Russian mob boss.

He'd play a kick-ass superhero, but not a sidekick.

I didn't even know that they wanted to bring in Robin in Tim Burton's first Batman movie.

I don't think that would have worked. I also went and googled some pictures of Kiefer Sutherland around the time he was asked. He would've been a tougher Robin, for sure.

He would make a great Guy Gardner in another Green lantern movie.

To this day I'm not sure that the Joker was supposed to have killed the Waynes in Batman. I always thought it was just Bruce Wayne projecting the image of whoever he was up against onto his parents' killer to get him through each battle. Any thoughts?

Joker never killed his parents...Why they put that in the film is beyond me...

We all know it was Joe Chill...
