Joaquin Phoenix has always seemed very resistant to taking on comic book movie roles, so it was a shock to all of us when the news came in last night that the Acadeny Award-winning actor was in talks to play The Joker in Todd Philips' planned take on the iconic Batman villain.

Whether he actually closes the deal remains to be seen, but that hasn't stopped several fans and artists bringing us their interpretations of how Phoenix could look sporting the distinctive features of Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime.

Have a look, and let us know which you prefer.

I'm really intrigued by how his interpretation would play out.

@ShellHead - I'd love it personally if we could get an interpretation that's anything like the more mainstream bat comics. Whether the Rebirth, 52, whatever. Just something that actually resembles the honest comic Joker would be great.

I'm sure we won't get that with this though. I don't imagine he'll be anything like what most fans would recognize as the Joker. He'll be styled more like a gritty crime drama character, I suspect.

I want a Joker that is refined. Being depraved doesn't mean you can't enjoy the finer things, darling.

My least favorite actor as my favorite comic book character. Great.

If the movie is about a young Joker in the 80s then why are they casting so old? Joaquin Phoenix looks like he's in his late 40s/early 50s.
