Gary Oldman Recants Comic-Con Comment

Late last week during a Book of Eli panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Gary Oldman announced that he thought filming was to begin on the next installment of the Batman franchise next year, and fans could expect to see a new film in 2011. Well, now he's telling a different story...

Given previous news about Christopher Nolan and the state of the next Batman movie, this seemed like a very sudden turnaround from Warner Brothers. His laugh and “But you didn’t hear it from me” informed fans that this was by no means an official release from Warner Brothers. Still, emotions ranged from perplexed to elated at the revelation.

Now however, it is becoming apparent that Oldman may have spoken far too soon. In an interview with Ain’t It Cool New’s Quint, Oldman amended his previous statement saying that he was sure that they wanted to make another movie, but that it might be two or three years before anything new for us. Whether Warner Brothers has reprimanded Oldman for letting a big secret slip, or the actor jumped the gun, most Batman fans will be breathing a sigh of relief. Better to wait and have a good film than risk rushing things and losing Nolan along the way.

I read the same from Goyer, it sounds as though Oldman may have been reprimanded by Warner Bros though!..in which case, he may have let something slip..in which case, he was telling the truth!

WB put him in a headlock and taught him a few things if he wants to stay as Comish Gordon.

I wouldn't see any logic in keeping it all in secrecy. Why would they? We'll all go see the movie either way. I'm not gonna go see it more because it popped out of the blue.

WB; Gary, We've been hearing that you told someone about the new Batman film. Is this true?

Oldman; ...

WB; Well...

Oldman; Um... Yes.

WB; What do you have to say for yourself?

Oldman; So..so..sorry...

WB; and...

Oldman; ...I'll never do it again.

WB; Good, now off to your room like a good little boy.

Personally I think with all the hesitation about making another movie and the fact that DC needs to play catch up with Marvel they shouldn't make another Batman inline with the Nolan Series.

They should use Green Lantern as a jumping off point much like Iron Man was, to incorporate other DC characters into the same universe which they should have no problem with since unlike Marvel they own the movie rights to all their characters.

Due to Oldman's stature in the industry, WB probably lets him say that little bit, just to see fans reactions etc.

I agree with the article, rather wait for Nolan and something well done.

Leee dc sucks in the live action part of it batman and superman are the only movies with big budgets besides watchmen that have done well and its batman way more than superman who really hasn't been that successful and if you mention the animated movies and shit im not gonna wanna listen to anythin you say I like you but no one gives a [frick] about that really unless you're like 15 so for [frick]s sake stop mentionin that in live action marvels whoopin that ass

they need to put the riddler and hatter in the next movie for batman, that would be a sweet combo. They already screwed over the other because everyone knows that Harley is Jokers girl and they could of saved Two-Face for another movie

SabretoothTiger i think youl find your in the minority with the animated movies, most people on here really enjoy them.

Also, it really comes down to personal taste with the live action. Dont mention to me how well a movie does financially because THAT means [frick] all to anyone that cares about quality movies in general. With Watchmen and TDK Dc has done more than Marvel has ever done or prob ever will do with 2 movies alone.

I think Dushku would have been better. Ever since Buffy she has been one of my favorite actresses. I also think she would have done a better russian accent than Scarjo.
