George Barris, the creator of the original 60's Batmobile and other famous custom cars has passed away.

The California car customizer and hot rodder , George Barris, who went on to build some of the most iconic cars of TV and film history, has passed away. He was 89 years old.

It is impossible to explain how influencial Barris's designs for tv and film were on American car culture. He was born in Chicago but as a young child moved to moved to Roseville, California.  Barris learned auto building skills and was using his talents before he finished high school to customize cars. At 18 years old, he and his brother opened the Barris Custom Shop in Bell, California.  They became  established car customizers in the hot rod and custom car scene that was bursting on the west coast.

Besides the Batmobile, Barris also worked on the Munsters Koach and the Green Hornet's car known as the Black Beauty.

I got to meet Mr. Barris a several years ago. Very nice man. He was a personal friend to Elvis Presley and had some great stories to tell. God speed Mr. Barris!
