Grant Morrison Says "Batman Inc." Inspired by Arkham Asylum Game

According to an interview at Wired.com, writer Grant Morrison was inspired by the the game Arkham Asylum in creating the new DC title, Batman Inc.

Morrison explains, "One of the things I wanted to do was capture the feeling of the Batman: Arkham Asylum game that came out in 2009. When I played that game, it was the first time in my life where I actually felt what it is like to be Batman. It was very involving. The way the game and Paul Dini's story was created, crafted and shot made you actually feel like Batman."

In Batman Inc., the Dark Knight looks to expand the symbolic power of Batman on a global scale, traveling around the world and launching -- for lack of a better term -- a "franchise". Dick Grayson remains Batman in Gotham City.

I absolutely hate this idea. It's right down there with the Batman credit card scene in that craptacular film i refuse to name.

It's an awful idea, way to screw up Batman Grant. Such a good writer as well, sad to see him [frick] this up so badly.

The only good thing about Batman Inc. is the fact that Dick will still be Batman. Bruce should have stayed dead longer IMO.

I think this is a really interesting idea. This character has been around for 80 years, I'm just happy to see there's still new things to do with him.

just a note, several years back a limited series of Batman ran, called "The League Of Batmen", could this have some basis in that comic, with Batmen all over the world swearing to uphold the best of Batman. hmmmmm

The League of Batmen and the Batmen of Many Nations weren't quite the same, in that Bruce Wayne hadn't gone public with any of it, saying he was going to finance such an endeavor. Having Bruce Wayne act so publicly in this manner gives people a starting point for their search to begin looking for the identity of Batman, as well as targets to get to Batman.

Bats has always been shown as a) smarter than that and b) far more secretive than that. Two core concepts to the character that Morrison apparently can't grasp, making this storyline an epic fail in my eyes.

Idiocy like this is why I don't buy many comics anymore.

@JoshW: It's not just your opinion, it's a fact. Bruce needed to be dead much much longer. It just felt so incredibly rushed. Dick had barely stopped complaining about the suit and then Bruce is travelling through time or something ludicrously absurd. I just don't see how the character of Bruce Wayne can suddenly trust more people to live up to HIS name; HIS legend.

It just seems silly, another event to just shake things up.

It seems to me like a very effective and inevitable evolution of Batman's War on Crime, like at the end of TDKR when he's got that gang working for him. It's also a bit like Bruce creating his own version of Ra's organization, which also makes a lot of sense.

i dont like the turn the batcomics are making...its great to see bruce back but "Batmen"?? There's only one batman in my book and that s BRUCE fraking WAYNE. I like what they did with dick grayson and damian as batman and robin. For now im going to wait until bruce is the only batman in gotham

It sounds pretty cool, I'll be reading it, and his Batman and Robin series is really good too bad that they're changing the team for it.
I'll just miss Nightwing.

I'm unhappy... that's all I really have to say.

I thought that when he came back, we could get back to the great storyline that was going before all this happened... This is going to be really bad.

Stupid idea. Could've worked as an Elseworlds story, but not in continuity. It's just not Batman. And how exactly did Arkham Asylum inspire your most recent piece of sh!t storyline Mr. Morrison? By making you feel like Batman? Funny... that's how I felt reading the comics before you came up and decided to ruin the very essence of the character.

haven't been keeping up on the news - my friend was filling me in on this.

It's crap imo... next thing they'll be doing the "sequel" to Watchmen I tell you.

This is one of the most interesting ideas they could have come up with which can be spun off many different ways.
