DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the first part of their planned slate for the revamped DCU earlier this week, and fans are eager to learn more about the various DC Comics-based big and small-screen projects that'll be coming our way over the next few years.

Fortunately, Gunn is known for sharing the occasional update on social media, and the filmmaker has now revealed the comic book runs that will influence some of the upcoming films in the "Gods and Monsters" chapter of the DCU.

Though The Suicide Squad director stresses that the respective films won't be direct adaptations, "the feel, the look, or the tone" of these stories "are touchstones for our team."

The comics are: Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman (which Gunn has previously teased), The Authority Omnibus by Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison's Batman Vol. 1, and Alan Moore's Absolute Swamp Thing Vol. 1.

We're sure many of you have read some or all of these titles already, but if not, be sure to add them to the list if you want a better idea of what to expect from Superman: Legacy, The Authority, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and Swamp Thing.

We do know that Logan director James Mangold is in talks to helm the latter, and Gunn is writing the new Superman movie himself (he may also direct, but that's yet to be confirmed).

What about the Batman comic?

This is some good shit right here. Gunn's ACTUALLY using the comics as a baseline for the universe, it's awesome!

@19Batman84 - I've never read it personally but it gave us Professor Pyg so I love it already. I just love them as a writer in general anyhow.

@FilmGuy7878 - morrison's batman is one of my all-time favorite runs on the character, and the perfect counter-balance to what reeves/pattinson are doing

@FilmGuy7878 - he's an amazing writer taking the goofy aspect but making it matured and well rounded and intriguing

Honestly, I hope Gunn keeps sharing what comics inspire upcoming projects.

Like to dive into the stories that serve as inspiration, so I know what to expect and keep up with.
