DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the first part of their planned slate for the revamped DCU earlier this week, and fans are eager to learn more about the various DC Comics-based big and small-screen projects that'll be coming our way over the next few years.

Fortunately, Gunn is known for sharing the occasional update on social media, and the filmmaker has now revealed the comic book runs that will influence some of the upcoming films in the "Gods and Monsters" chapter of the DCU.

Though The Suicide Squad director stresses that the respective films won't be direct adaptations, "the feel, the look, or the tone" of these stories "are touchstones for our team."

The comics are: Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman (which Gunn has previously teased), The Authority Omnibus by Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison's Batman Vol. 1, and Alan Moore's Absolute Swamp Thing Vol. 1.

We're sure many of you have read some or all of these titles already, but if not, be sure to add them to the list if you want a better idea of what to expect from Superman: Legacy, The Authority, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and Swamp Thing.

We do know that Logan director James Mangold is in talks to helm the latter, and Gunn is writing the new Superman movie himself (he may also direct, but that's yet to be confirmed).

What about the Batman comic?

This is some good shit right here. Gunn's ACTUALLY using the comics as a baseline for the universe, it's awesome!
FilmGuy7878 - 2/2/2023, 3:00 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - Oh it's the Morrison Batman, nevermind I'm an idiot lol.
19Batman84 - 2/2/2023, 3:21 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - morrison's run is amazing!
FilmGuy7878 - 2/2/2023, 3:25 PM
@19Batman84 - I've never read it personally but it gave us Professor Pyg so I love it already. I just love them as a writer in general anyhow.
tmp3 - 2/2/2023, 4:06 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - morrison's batman is one of my all-time favorite runs on the character, and the perfect counter-balance to what reeves/pattinson are doing
19Batman84 - 2/3/2023, 8:08 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - he's an amazing writer taking the goofy aspect but making it matured and well rounded and intriguing
Th3Batman - 2/2/2023, 2:54 PM
I've said it once, and I'll say it 100 times more, this is by far the best time to be a Batman fan. I cannot wait for both Reeves' Batman 2 and this new DCU version. Both are going to be very different from one another, but they both clearly have the same passionate people working on them. It doesn't have to be one or the other, both will be good, and we can enjoy both. I'm also happy for the other projects being worked on, as those fans are long overdue for some attention.
bkmeijer1 - 2/2/2023, 2:56 PM
@Th3Batman - as a big fan of Green Lantern and the Authority (Midnighter and Apollo especially), I'm pretty happy with it too.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is something I didn't even knew I wanted as a movie. That's by far the best kind of surprise.
Th3Batman - 2/2/2023, 3:00 PM
@bkmeijer1 - What I like about Gunn's direction is that he seems to be giving every type of DC fan something to look forward to. If someone's like me who just cares about the Batman side of things, we've got 2 major projects to look forward to. If you're someone who like space and cosmic stories, you've got green lanter. If another likes lesser known properties, there's the Authority to anticipate. Then of course superman and supergirl are getting projects as well. It's a very diverse list of works, and I hope everything works out.
Comicmoviejunki - 2/2/2023, 4:10 PM
@Th3Batman - what about this article makes you so sure either movie will be good. The Batman was great but that doesn't solidify the sequel will be. We know absolutely nothing about who's doing The Bold movie. It could be complete shit.
Th3Batman - 2/2/2023, 4:25 PM
@Comicmoviejunki - Why would I assume the batman 2 will be bad when the first one was so good ? As for brave and the bold, Affleck is likely directing it.
Comicmoviejunki - 2/2/2023, 4:52 PM
@Th3Batman - Iron man was great. Iron man 2 wasn't. Iron man 3 was trash. I'm not even going to respond to your Ben Affleck is likely directing comment, LOL
bkmeijer1 - 2/2/2023, 6:04 PM
@Th3Batman - yeah, there's enough to be excited for for everyone.

Could it dissappoint though? Yeah, for sure. But that doesn't take away the excitement I have right now.
McMurdo - 2/2/2023, 7:39 PM
@Th3Batman - we are so [frick]ing spoiled dude. I'm really excited for Damien!
McMurdo - 2/2/2023, 7:41 PM
@Th3Batman - when he said True Detective and Hal/John as space cops in the same breath. I pooped out of my penis. And yes I'm aware that this implies I have other problems..
McMurdo - 2/2/2023, 7:42 PM
@Comicmoviejunki - Reeves has a co writer. That's all I wanted out of a sequel. I nerd some detective progression.
blitzburgh - 2/2/2023, 7:46 PM
@McMurdo - so stupid as usual
bkmeijer1 - 2/2/2023, 2:54 PM
Honestly, I hope Gunn keeps sharing what comics inspire upcoming projects.

Like to dive into the stories that serve as inspiration, so I know what to expect and keep up with.
TheThang - 2/2/2023, 2:57 PM
Give us more Jimmy Olsen and less Lois Lane to start out the series. Jimmy Olsen has been massively underused
dracula - 2/2/2023, 3:00 PM
@TheThang - they could use him more, but honestly how much can they do with him?
FilmGuy7878 - 2/2/2023, 3:02 PM
@dracula - He's Superman's Best Pal. Make him like the Ned Leeds to Clark's Peter Parker, the geeky friend who tries his best to help out and is the only one that knows he's Superman.
KWilly - 2/2/2023, 3:05 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - Jimmy Olsen knowing Clark is Supes would actually be a nice change of pace
FilmGuy7878 - 2/2/2023, 3:06 PM
@KWilly - Yeah exactly. Jimmy needing to keep Clark's identity a secret from Lois until she inevitably finds out (because she's a great investigator and all) would be a great little b story.
Comicbookart - 2/2/2023, 3:17 PM
@dracula - Jimmy Olsen is just a start. Superman/Clark needs friends, a lot of friends. Especially since they are trying to humanize him and emphasize his optimism for the reboot. A glaring flaw I've noticed with MOS, BvS, Jl and to lesser extent the Reeve films is that Superman/Clark has no real social life. I hope Gunn realizes this and changes that.

The best depictions of a social Clark/Superman are from the shows and comics. If there is anything they take as inspiration from the material, it should be that.
DerekLake - 2/2/2023, 8:16 PM
@Comicbookart - Exactly. It’s arguably the thing that sets him apart the most from almost all other heroes. Clark is eager and willing to make new friends and alliances. And the best depictions of Superman have been those where he is deeply connected to other people. None of this “you are my world” loner approach.
GarthRanzz - 2/2/2023, 9:57 PM
@TheThang - Its funny. I dont care much for Jimmy in Superman stories...but solo stuff...he is so awesome. That Harley Quinn book "Our Worlds At War" was beautiful. Loved the Metropolis miniseries that was a love story between him and Lena. His Countdown storyline was the main reason I picked it up.

obviously a big morrison fan (personally proffer scott snyder)

wonder if he will be taking from Wonder Woman Earth One, when they reboot her
Th3Batman - 2/2/2023, 3:01 PM
@dracula - I expect to see Snyder's work show up in one of Reeves' projects, like the court of owls.
