Joaquin Phoenix Says He Has "No Idea" About That Todd Philips Standalone JOKER Movie

There's always a chance he's simply playing coy here of course, but during a new interview, You were never Really Here actor Joaquin Phoenix plays down the recent rumor that he's in line to play The Joker.

If Joaquin Phoenix really is in talks to play the Clown Prince of Crime in The Hangover director Todd Philips' Joker origin movie, someone should probably let him know!

While speaking to French publication Allocine about his latest film, the Academy Award-nominated actor was quizzed about his involvement in the project, but claimed not to have any idea what the interviewer was talking about - although he does admit that it "sounds amazing."

While Pheonix's surprised reaction does seem genuine, there's still a decent chance he's simply dodging the question.

Eh idk. DC seems to forget the Joker isn't just a crazy guy with a gun or knife and can actually be funny sometimes. They're really not trying to lean into the very clownish things about him like his joke gadget and all that. Doesn't always have to be the scary dark psycho. Probably just gonna be a version we all see coming if he takes the role.

Honestly, watching the video it’s hard to get a read on it, since the man is a talented actor. Seems sincere enough though... Even the flatly spoken “that sounds amazing” would seem to be more in response to the idea that everyone is talking about him doing a film he’s never heard of, rather than a judgement of the project (which the interviewer never describes beyond calling it a Joker film, at least in the clip.... so if he honestly has no idea what she’s talking about, then he can’t be referring to the concept.)
