Cameras are currently rolling on Joker: Folie à Deux, but a lot of extras working on the sequel are said to be feeling pretty p*ssed off right now.
According to TMZ, the DC movie's background players are unhappy about a lack of bathroom access, with complaints that they're stuck on set for over two hours at a time without being allowed to go to the restroom or drink water. The condition at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank doesn't sound good, but the fault supposedly lies with lengthy camera setups.
Those are taking between 20 minutes to an hour, and some extras have allegedly been "berated" for daring to ask if they can relieve themselves.
One extra was forced to plead with the Joker sequel's assistant director, only to then grab a cup of water on the way back from the bathroom to be asked, "Why are you drinking more water? So you have to go pee again?"
Another A.D. was even overheard saying, "I've never had to go to the bathroom this much. What do they even do in there? Cause they definitely aren't using them."
The Screen Actors Guild has received an official complaint about break time violations and has since spoken to the production following an investigation. Funnily enough, similar issues occurred during production on the first movie after extras found themselves locked in a Brooklyn subway car for over three hours and started peening on the tracks.
This is unlikely to derail the sequel in any way, but it goes to show how hard being an extra even on a big budget production like Joker: Folie à Deux can be. Little has been revealed about the movie aside from the fact it will star Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga with some musical elements.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after Joker debuted.
