Zazie Beetz only had a minor role in the first Joker movie, but it's being reported that the Deadpool 2 star is now in talks to return as Sophie Dumond in upcoming sequel, Folie a Deux.

Zazie Beetz may or may not be back as Domino in Deadpool 3, but it looks like the highly in-demand Bullet Train actress is set to reprise her other comic book movie role.

Deadline reports that Beetz is now in talks to return as Sophie Dumond in Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, Folie à Deux, which is scheduled to start shooting this December.

The Atlanta star only a had a relatively minor role in the first film as a single mother who lived in Arthur Fleck's (Joaquin Phoenix) apartment and soon became the object of his affection. As the plot progresses, the two grow close, but it's ultimately revealed that Fleck was delusional and imagined their entire relationship.

Sophie's fate was left somewhat ambiguous in the final act after she finds Arthur sitting in her apartment. How she'll factor into the sequel remains to be seen, but the majority of the story will reportedly play out in Arkham Asylum, so perhaps she'll pay her old neighbor a visit?

"Folie à Deux" loosely translates to "madness for two," a condition that is generally defined as an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually the members of a close family. The title reveal led to speculation that Harley Quinn may be involved, and sure enough, we'd later learn that none other than Lady Gaga had been cast in the role.

Details are few and far between, but the A Star Is Born actress obviously won't be playing the same version of Harley Margot Robbie portrayed in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad.

The movie is being developed as a musical, but again, we still don't have a whole lot to go on.

Joker: Folie à deux is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. You can check out the announcemnet teaser below.

I gotta be honest, this movie sounds so weird, but they must have something cool in mind for them to go in this direction. I'm intrigued to see what those crazy kids have cooked up.

@ThorArms - I agree. I wasn't a fan of the first one. It felt like a JJ Abrams Cloverfield sequel. Like a movie that someone else made and then WB just added the Waynes and Gotham to it. And that cringey scene of the Waynes getting killed in the alley that is obviously meant to show that Batman will exist on this world one day.

But other than that, they could have removed those things and called this something completely different and it would have been a weird, but good movie. As it is, it's a really bad Joker movie.

@CorndogBurglar - Totally agree. This is a fake comic book movie. Todd Phillips wanted to do his Scorsese pastiche ripoff, so he threw the Batman stuff on top of it and pitched it to WB. Good performance. Lame movie.

The only reason I see her returning is in some hallucinations or testifying for him to stay on the Arkham.

Not sure what they could do with her outside of maybe Harley maybe killing her for rejecting Arthur, depending how far they want to push things

She is a good actress, but not only her but all the other characters had very little to add to the story of the first film. It was clear that it was a Joker development-only movie, with the other characters just orbiting around.

genuinely surprised she's returning in a joker film before another deadpool movie haha. she's great but i feel like joker wasted her. the musical aspect made me so much more interested in this though ngl

The first movie was so f*ckin good, not sure about the sequel but it definitely does sound different.

Just because the majority of the movie takes place in Arkham it doesn't necessarily mean that Joker and Harley couldn't at some moment of the film break out and pay her a visit for some plot related reason.

While we're still at it, this could also be a good chance to use Hugo Strange as the one analysing the two jesters.

@NinnesMBC - john malkovitch would be good as strange for this universe. or christoph waltz

Yeah I don't like her coming back. It's gonna be really hard writing her in this movie while maintaining the mystery of whether or not she was killed. Like, if she was alive, why would she visit him?
DudeGuy

@Origame - because he’s insane and maybe hallucinating her. Not that far fetched when he has a musical going on in his head.

@OldMan - but he was already shown she wasn't really into him. And he's also shown the awareness of knowing when he kills them. So just seeing the hallucination should give a reaction confirming her fate.

@Origame - this seems like a non issue

@OldMan - not if you care about ambiguity. Which is the point of the original film.

Love Zazie...but I am not watching this film.

But why?
While she was “important” to him she was just kind of in his head when he was down and depressed but now he’s free and living his life his way so there really is no reason for him to return her. Not to mention if harley Quinn is in this then another love interest seems highly uninteresting.
