In may ways Christopher Nolan's interpretation of Selina Kyle/Catwoman is one of the most mysterious things about The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan and Anne Hathaway - who will slip into the leather outfit to play the character - have remained pretty tight lipped about the whole thing in previous interviews, but her appearances in the trailers have led fans to believe that this version of Catwoman will not be an enemy of, but rather an ally to Batman. There is no doubt that they end up working together at some point, as is evidenced by the last shots of the most recent trailer. But will they start out on opposite sides?
In the following excerpts from Total Film's interview with Hathaway, she talks about playing such a famous character, her intense fight scenes, and although she doesn't come right out and use the word "villain", she does confirm at least that Miss Kyle performs some "questionable" actions..
"It's an incredible role. It's one of the most famous comic-book characters for a woman. But, also, it's Catwoman In this franchise.
It's hard to talk about Selina Kyle because she's intensely private and mysterious. She has her own ethics, which can involve doing things other people might consider questionable."
Hathway goes on to reveal that we will see Catwoman go toe to toe with 15 guys for one fight scene -
"There were some days when I was wearing the catsuit for a long time and I had to fight 15 guys, and I just wanted to shout from the rooftops how excited I am". She also describes her director Christopher Nolan as being like "
Hitchcock with an automatic", and praises his multi-faceted film making brain..
"Chris is so intelligent and his instincts are dead on. He understands lighting. He understands pace. He understands writing. He understands costumes, for God's sake!"
