TDKR: Anne Hathaway Talks Selina Kyle/Catwoman

In an interview with Total Film the actress discusses her - and of course, Christopher Nolan's - take on the famous Batman villain. But will she even be a villain in this movie? It certainly sounds like it..

In may ways Christopher Nolan's interpretation of Selina Kyle/Catwoman is one of the most mysterious things about The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan and Anne Hathaway - who will slip into the leather outfit to play the character - have remained pretty tight lipped about the whole thing in previous interviews, but her appearances in the trailers have led fans to believe that this version of Catwoman will not be an enemy of, but rather an ally to Batman. There is no doubt that they end up working together at some point, as is evidenced by the last shots of the most recent trailer. But will they start out on opposite sides?

In the following excerpts from Total Film's interview with Hathaway, she talks about playing such a famous character, her intense fight scenes, and although she doesn't come right out and use the word "villain", she does confirm at least that Miss Kyle performs some "questionable" actions..

"It's an incredible role. It's one of the most famous comic-book characters for a woman. But, also, it's Catwoman In this franchise.

It's hard to talk about Selina Kyle because she's intensely private and mysterious. She has her own ethics, which can involve doing things other people might consider questionable."

Hathway goes on to reveal that we will see Catwoman go toe to toe with 15 guys for one fight scene - "There were some days when I was wearing the catsuit for a long time and I had to fight 15 guys, and I just wanted to shout from the rooftops how excited I am". She also describes her director Christopher Nolan as being like "Hitchcock with an automatic", and praises his multi-faceted film making brain..

"Chris is so intelligent and his instincts are dead on. He understands lighting. He understands pace. He understands writing. He understands costumes, for God's sake!"

For much more on The Dark Knight Rises be sure to pic up the new issue of Total Film Magazine, out now.

The costumes really aren't as bad as people make them sound. Sure catwoman would look better with the cowl and goggles and bane if he was a bit bigger but what they have isn't bad either. As for bane I'd prefer his mask over a luchador wrestling mask..whick would look dumb

Well I think all the costumes look great. But, yes, cue the haters...

I don't think saying she does "questionable" things means she an outright "villain". Just means she does some "questionable" things during the movie.

Don't hate the costumes, don't love em either to be honest. I think that there could have been a much better look for Catwoman in particular. But it's a small thing really, I thought Cap looked goofy as [frick] in pics before I saw The Avengers too.

I just wish her hair wasn't all blowing in the wind. What you are robbing a safe? Oh you left some hair... CSI just found you.
Other than that i am excited to see the movie!

the whole"controversy" surrounding the costumes has been really blown out of proportion by people who are looking for stuff to nitpick because from what we've seen in the latest 2 trailers this film is being made by a whole team of professionals and not one actor is [frick]ing up so far. same thing with the batman voice; When the film came out noone was talking about the voice; they were all i awe about heath ledger and Aarn eckhart delivering masterful performances. It's only later when people started making fun of the voice that some people decided that it was a real issue. You acn't please everyone and if you try you end up like Spiderman 3.

@redsoxdude-I don't think CSI or police will do much in the way of investigating. It honestly looks like Gotham may have gone to shit and the rich are fearing for their lives.

Doesn't really understand action scenes though... at least, not quite so far. Let's hope he took a few notes from Snyder after they worked together for Man of Steel.

They need to reboot Batman back to high school days. And then he asks Selina Kyle to the prom but Bane already asked first. Oh man, there'd be so much action.

And if he understood costumes, she'd have a cowl. Not to "look better" but more to keep her hair from becoming a clichéd excuse to lose a fight or be identified by CSI.

She's going to be great and everyone will love her in this role and be eating crow on here. The same thing happened when they announced Evans for Cap America, Ruffalo for Hulk, Heath Ledger for Joker, on and on and on...
