Here's Who Matt Reeves Reportedly Wants To Replace Ben Affleck As THE BATMAN In His Trilogy

Ben Affleck has made it clear that he's ready to hang up the cape and cowl as the DC Film Universe's Batman and now a new report claims to reveal who director Matt Reeves is eyeing as the new Bruce Wayne.

Earlier today, we heard that The Batman director Matt Reeves is mulling over finding a new actor to take on the role of the Dark Knight in his trilogy, no great surprise considering the fact Ben Affleck seems ready to walk away from the character. Well, in the video below, John Campea now claims that the War for the Planet of the Apes helmer has set his sights on A-Lister Jake Gyllenhaal (Stronger).

Apparently, two ideas are being considered for the trilogy; one would see it set apart from the DC Films Universe (which probably means we can forget about seeing more of J.K. Simmons' Jim Gordon) and the other would be set before the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jake and Ben aren't dead ringers for one another but given the near ten year age gap, it could actually work really well!

It seems we'll just have to wait and see but this is a very interesting and exciting casting addition and one which would definitely soften the blow of Affleck's seemingly inevitable departure. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.

@Desrow - Why are you posting a pic of him with Bill Simmons? Is a sports radio host wearing a Batman shirt supposed to imply something? Does Bill Simmons somehow have inside knowledge as a sports radio host?

@blackandyellow

I don't know... but he's a great host.

@Desrow - Jake's a great choice but they should just recast like Bond or Banner and keep it set in the same DC movie U! They should begin right away and cast Jake in the Batman to reintroduce the character (and have him take on Joker and an army of Bat-villains) and then put Jake's Batman in Justice League 2

@Desrow - Ehh, he's okay. I haven't really followed him since ESPN fired him.

@Desrow - i doubt he will take it even if ben walks out. A-list actors dont like commitments to 5 picture deals. only way i see him taking it is if WB cancels the shared universe and goes back to the joel schumacher era where every batman film has a differ actor and loose continuities.

But that sounds stupid too. WB is going to murder the comic book genre if they keep disappointing.

@Desrow - I don't trust Campea one little bit .. so I am not buying this at all

@Desrow - I'd rather see Jon Hamm if they are staying with the older Batman

@411IDSigo - That is a great pick! I forgot about Jon Hamm. Jake can not and should not be the Bat. He's a great actor, he doesn't have any qualities to fit the Bat. If they mirage him with justice league he's going to be the shortest league member and his voice as Bruce Wayne won't work. I won't watch the trilogy if that happens.

@SuperMando -Agreed. And I agree with @Desrow. He would be a much better Green Lantern.

@Desrow - he's been my choice for Hal since the Green Lantern movie tanked, glad I'm not the only one who wants him for the role!

As for Batman, I really hope there no need to recast. I'd rather they cancel Reeves' Batman trilogy, maybe give him the reins for the next couple of Justice League movies (if Zack really isn't coming back), and let Ben just reduce his role as Batman so he has room to do other things. I'd take occasional appearances of Batfleck over a DCEU spearheaded by a recast Batman any day.

@Desrow - plus Jake seems less likely to commit to multiple films (esp. more than 3) so playing GL works because they can just write the character out when he's done and bring in successive Lanterns like John, Guy, Kyle, etc.
