THE BATMAN: Check Out Michael Giacchino's Intense Theme For "The Riddler" From The Movie's Soundtrack

Thanks to filmmaker Matt Reeves, we can now listen to The Riddler's theme from Michael Giacchino's The Batman soundtrack. Appropriately titled "The Riddler," it's a haunting piece of music that suits the deranged psychopath - who will be portrayed as a Zodiac Killer-style murderer - perfectly.

This Edward Nashton doesn't wear a colourful green suit with a bowler hat and cane, and Reeves recently shed some light on the villain's costume choice during an interview with Games Radar

"I read Mindhunter. It made me think of the Zodiac killer, and how he actually wore this primitive costume that really is a primitive superhero costume...a rogues’ gallery costume," the director explains. "And I was like, 'Oh, that’s really scary, the idea of people really wearing masks, and withholding their identities, and terrorizing people, and how scary that is.'"

We're hopeful that Catwoman's theme will be next, as we're sure Giacchino has done something similarly unique with Selina Kyle. The fact that tracks like this are generating so much excitement online is also a good indication of how hyped fans are for this Caped Crusader's big screen debut.

The Batman finds The Dark Knight in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham.

Joining Robert Pattinson in the star-studded ensemble are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.

Love the score. Still not sold on the costumes for riddler or bats. Riddler more so. I wish I could get in the hype train like everyone else.

holy mood swings Batman. I was thinking "this doesn't seem intense at all" and then BAM, it slapped me in the face. I like it.
Giacchino out here really establishing himself as the second coming of Danny Elfman.

@JoeInTheBox - I don't think he's a bad composer, but I first noticed his score when he did Rogue One. I thought it was a bit much. I think he tries to go big, and loud, and it sometimes drowns out the emotion.

Batman soundtracks are always top tier, this is def a worthy addition. Now when are they gonna release another concept álbum??? The old 90's albums were great

That drop at the midpoint is probably when he floods the city. Reeves was definitely inspired by Zero Year.

2 whole minutes can be easily trimmed from the score. It drags sometimes.

The problem with Giacchino working on everything in Hollywood right now seems to be that he can be hit or miss. I’d say this one is somewhere in between, but his Batman theme is a bit better. I really was underwhelmed by what he did for No Way Home for example.

He finally got his Spider-Man theme to be a little better with the opera voices featured in that final swing scene. I love his Doctor Strange theme, but idk, sometimes his stuff just blends in to the background too much and doesn’t stand out enough as memorable. Again, his Spidey music was okay but I just didn’t like the main suite enough to stick with hearing it for 3 movies in a row.

I wish people would chill out over the costume. I get it! It doesn’t look like the Riddler! But honestly this isn’t the Riddler in the traditional sense. He definitely has some narcissistic tendencies, but unlike his comic book counterpart, he appears to be acting more as a vigilante. He’s not trying to represent the upper echelon of Gotham. Instead he’s fighting to expose the elitist class for the monsters they are. Which is why his costume is so fitting. The previous iterations have always been about self aggrandizing. Getting his moment in the spotlight after years of being exploited and bullied into obscurity. In a way this Riddler is more of a dark reflection of Batman. His costume is not a bowler hat and a well tailored suit because he doesn’t align himself with the ruling class. His costume isn’t flashy or covered in a thousand question marks because it functions to conceal his identity rather than emphasize it. Oh and I know this is nitpicking, because who the f*ck cares if it was BDSM gear, but the supposed “gimp” mask is actually a U.S. Issue ECW Extreme Cold Face Mask. Like everything else he’s wearing it’s very militaristic and matches well with Robert Pattinson’s “Mark I” bat suit . So with all this said, if you don’t like the costume because it’s not your cup of tea or you were hoping for something a bit closer to the comics I completely understand. But I implore you to keep an open mind to these kinds of changes. Several of Batman’s rogues gallery (Mister Freeze, Clayface, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, etc.) would not be nearly as popular as they are today if individuals didn’t try taking risks with the source material like they did.
