THE BATMAN Flies Past $750 Million Worldwide Ahead Of HBO Max Debut; MORBIUS De-Fanged

The Batman has managed to pass the $750 million mark at the global box office ahead of its HBO Max debut tomorrow, but there'll be no Easter resurrection for Morbius, which is now a bonafide flop.

The Batman is set to make its streaming debut when it arrives in HBO Max tomorrow, but Matt Reeves' reboot is still performing well in theaters. The same can't be said for Sony Pictures' Morbius, however.

The Dark Knight's latest solo outing has managed to hold on to its spot as the highest-grossing movie of the year (globally and domestically), hitting $751.1 million worldwide ($386.1M international; $365M in North America).

“The incredible response we’ve seen at theaters across the country is a testament to both the enduring power of this iconic DC Super Hero and the huge appetite out there to experience great movies on the big screen," WB’s President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein said of the BO update. "We congratulate everyone involved on reaching this impressive milestone.”

“The Batman performs on every level, delivering critical praise and big crowds in every market around the globe. We’re so proud of the film and so happy it continues to strike a chord with audiences everywhere,” added Added Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution.

There will be no miraculous Easter resurrections for The Living Vampire, though. The Jared Leto-let Marvel Comics adaptation took in just $6.7M in its third weekend on release (a -54% drop from last weekend), for a global cume of $146.4M. As things stand, the movie is eyeing a $155M-$175M worldwide run.

While the studio obviously won't be pleased with this performance, it's unlikely to deter plans for the SPUMC, or "VenomVerse." Of course, it might be a different story if Kraven the Hunter or Madame Webb were to flop!
