THE BATMAN Has Already Passed $400 Million Worldwide, Meaning The Movie Has Doubled Its Budget In A Week

The Batman remained at #1 at the North American box office this weekend, pushing its global total to over $400 million (meaning the movie has already doubled its budget). Find more details right here...

Deadline reports that The Batman remained at #1 this weekend with a solid 51% drop for an estimated $66 million three-day total. As a result, Matt Reeves' DC Comics adaptation is expected to have earned $238.5 million by Sunday, lifting its global cume to a healthy $400 million as of right now.

With a $200 million production budget, The Batman has now doubled that figure. However, with marketing costs factored in, it's hard to say how long it will be before the movie is deemed profitable.

It's also worth noting that the reboot has had a stronger hold during its second weekend than movies like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (-69%), The Dark Knight Rises (-61%), Justice League (-56%) and The Dark Knight (-53%). The Caped Crusader clearly remains as popular as ever, and moviegoers are responding to Robert Pattinson's take on the hero in a big way.

"Delivering the definitive take on the World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman is a sweeping, cinematic masterpiece that’s both DC’s best film and one of the most captivating, relentless, and unforgettable comic book movies ever made," we said in our review last month.

In other box office news, Spider-Man: No Way Home is nearing $800 million at the domestic box office. It should stand at $792.2 million by Sunday, but the fact the movie has leaked online in HD and will now be available officially a week early on Tuesday might slow its momentum somewhat.

What did you decide to watch on the big screen this weekend?

@dracula - People say that, but not really. Studios only receive a fraction of BO (60% US and about 20-40% international). So when you add in a marketing budget its still not another week or so.

But it's making good money, that's not the issue.

Hell yes, well deserved! I think for the sequel I’m gonna try to go in completely blind. There were def some scenes (batmobile chase, I’m vengeance after beating up the thug, and taking the machine guns to the chest) that I wish I had seen for the first time in theaters as opposed to in the trailers.

@DrThomasWayne - same. I loved the movie but those trailers got me so pumped because those moments are spectacular. Wish i had self control and went in blind.

This is the Batman film I've wished for forever. I worship my savior Matthew Reeves. Emo Bruce being obsessed with Zoe Kravitz spoke deeply to my experience. I feel represented finally.

Great to see two of the finest adaptations of Batman and Spider-Man, my favorite fictional characters on the big screen, being so incredibly well received (tho NWH is not my fave Spider-Man, that goes to Spider-Verse, but cheers regardless).

All everyone wants to do is unmask you. But they are missing the point. You and I both know, I'm looking at the real you right now.

@WakandanQueen - if he wasn't so incompetent in this film (like he is super dumb With Anika photographs not checking that they were taken from the same apartment Riddler lives in lol or the carpet tool) I'd agree. And he indirectly kills way too many people. It's no Mask of Phantasm but it's a solid addition to the live action stuff. Loved Pattinson but would prefer Reeves gets a writer for sequel.

@McMurdo - if he wasn't so incompetent

EVERYONE was incompetent. The second Batman and like the entire GCPD realized that there was someone across the street they all stormed into the building and the dude just walked out the back.

Like ... what the [frick]. I learned surrounding the building in the Army in my first week and I was a medic.

@Reeds2Much - 100 percent. Gordon gets called a good cop by Bats, and I'm like ummmmmm HOW WHY WHAT?!?! Maybe MORALLY he's a good cop. All Reeves had to do was have the Anika/Mitchell photographs taken from street level BUT NO, our new Bat doesn't even think to do what any basic beat cop would do FIRST, Investigate the damn angle since ALL the photos are from same damn vantage point. That and the carpet tool make it feel like this Bat has no business being in crime scenes but I'm hoping Reeves gets wind of this stuff and next film is way tighter. Pattinson reads forums alot so. But ya when your film is all about verisimilitude and you tout "detective film" in all your interviews, I expect basic investigative shit to be nailed. Instead I just get taken out of the film with every new piece of info because it's so basic. I mean this Bats can solve bad riddles and that's about as far as he goes in this. This film is good I enjoy it for the non detective stuff (sigh) but it definitely makes Mask of Phantasm stick out even more for me. That movie is a miracle, honestly after rewatching again.

@McMurdo - I would argue that the film makes good reasons for why he's not a super accomplished detective though. I mean even Matt Reeves stated as much in a video that I watched not long ago in which he wanted Batman, and I'm paraphrasing of course, to be fallible. It goes without saying that this is a Batman who's accustomed to beating up criminals as opposed to being challenged intellectually by someone like Riddler, which is a welcome thing, since Riddler is more often played for laughs these days but he actually had a sense of menace in this movie. Also someone made an excellent point about the carpet tool thing, which ties to one of the bigger ideas of the film: Bruce Wayne, at his essence, is spoiled out of his mind. Basically, how would a spoiled kid know what a carpet tool is? And if memory serves me well, he doesn't even recognize it as a carpet item, but sees it as a random blunt object. In real life, there are many basic day-to-day items that spoiled/rich individuals have no idea about and it's actually a really clever way of adding onto the deconstruction of Batman (without ruining himself as a character).

And why should we, as the audience, audibly be given a reason why Gordon is a good cop? We know the character and we know he's a good man. Batman and Gordon clearly have worked together during his Year One phase, so why do we have to see that relationship established again? That would almost be akin to seeing Bruce's parents get killed on screen again.

Also while he does indirectly kill people in that car chase scene, to be fair, Nolan's Batman did the exact same thing in his chase sequences in Begins and The Dark Knight. Cop cars and civilian cars destroyed galore.

I respect your opinion and while I also know the movie isn't perfect on every level, I do find that many people have critiques that are either addressed in the film or when you apply context to it, make perfect sense.
