Deadline reports that The Batman remained at #1 this weekend with a solid 51% drop for an estimated $66 million three-day total. As a result, Matt Reeves' DC Comics adaptation is expected to have earned $238.5 million by Sunday, lifting its global cume to a healthy $400 million as of right now.
With a $200 million production budget, The Batman has now doubled that figure. However, with marketing costs factored in, it's hard to say how long it will be before the movie is deemed profitable.
It's also worth noting that the reboot has had a stronger hold during its second weekend than movies like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (-69%), The Dark Knight Rises (-61%), Justice League (-56%) and The Dark Knight (-53%). The Caped Crusader clearly remains as popular as ever, and moviegoers are responding to Robert Pattinson's take on the hero in a big way.
"Delivering the definitive take on the World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman is a sweeping, cinematic masterpiece that’s both DC’s best film and one of the most captivating, relentless, and unforgettable comic book movies ever made," we said in our review last month.
In other box office news, Spider-Man: No Way Home is nearing $800 million at the domestic box office. It should stand at $792.2 million by Sunday, but the fact the movie has leaked online in HD and will now be available officially a week early on Tuesday might slow its momentum somewhat.
