Setting
Captain Marvel in the past really paid off for Marvel Studios as it allowed them to explore the Marvel Cinematic Universe's history and fill in some gaps. Now, it appears as if that's also the plan for
The Batman if a new rumour which is doing the rounds today is to be believed.
Apparently, Matt Reeves' movie takes place in the 1990s, and that's something which makes sense for a lot of reasons.
For starters, Ben Affleck's Batman had obviously been the Caped Crusader for well over twenty years and going back to the past gives Reeves the opportunity to tell some new stories without being forced to adhere to what's come before or having to totally reboot the character (which wouldn't sit well with fans of Batfleck).
Many of Batman's greatest comic book adventures were released in this era, and with Reeves planning to focus on a younger Dark Knight and his detective skills, it's no real surprise that he's rumoured to be taking Bruce Wayne to this time period.
Unfortunately, you have to believe this means we'll also be getting younger versions of Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon which more than likely closes the door on Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons reprising their roles. We can also probably forget about seeing Batman in the present day DCEU.
