Variety reports that Robert Pattinson will play The Batman for director Matt Reeves.

There were actually rumors doing the rounds that the Twilight actor might be in line for the role a few months back, but it's now been confirmed that Pattinson will indeed take over from Ben Affleck as a younger incarnation of the Caped Crusader.
Apparently, the highly in-demand star signed on without even seeing a finished script, as Reeves continues to polish it up. At 32, Pattinson will be the youngest actor to play Batman on the big screen.

UPDATE: But wait, this may not be a done deal just yet. According to Deadline, Dark Phoenix actor Nicholas Hoult is also in the running. It seems Reeves and Warner Bros. haven't officially settled on Pattinson, although the trade does mention that he's "holding the edge."

UPDATE 2: Aaaaand THR has just thrown Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's names into the mix. Things are about to get very interesting!
