THE BATMAN Star Peter Sarsgaard Says He Has A "Very Intense" Role In The DC Comics Adaptation

Despite claims that Peter Sarsgaard is playing District Attorney Gil Colson in The Batman, the actor has shared some new comments which indicate that there could be more to his character than we thought...

We know that The Batman will feature characters like Jim Gordon, Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin and, well, Batman, but there remains a lot of speculation surrounding Peter Sarsgaard's D.A. Gil Colson. He's not a character from the comic books, and it seems like a strange decision to cast the actor in what sounds like a relatively unimportant role!

Of course, many fans are convinced that the actor is actually Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and some new comments from Sarsgaard are only likely to add further fuel to the speculation.

"My part is very intense," he revealed during a recent interview with Observer when asked about The Batman. "On a big show like that my main concern was that I would have to do it 150 times—this intense scene and then that intense scene. My character is at nine out of ten for a lot of it. That was going through my head a lot, like ‘How do I maintain this?'"

Why would Gotham City's District Attorney need to be that intense? One compelling theory is that Colson is a new take on Batman: The Animated Series character Gil Mason. He was a hot-shot D.A. who was a patsy for Two-Face's takeover of the city's legal system, and someone who clashed with Commissioner Gordon on a number of occasions before beings stopped by Batgirl.

Time will tell, but these comments from Sarsgaard are undeniably intriguing, don't you think?

Peter Sarsgaard can play unhinged/intense characters pretty well. Excited to see his performance.

Also...this SNL skit always cracked me up. Think this was Hader and Sandberg’s first year on SNL. Remember watching it live 😂

@regularmovieguy - On the one hand, yeah, he'll kill it. On the other hand it makes me even more bummed that Jeremy Strong said no, haha. That dude's a [frick]ing amazing actor, especially with intense characters like this

@tmp3

Did Jeremy Strong say no? Feel like he would jump at the chance for a movie with this budget and cast but maybe it was a scheduling conflict or there was a project he was more excited for.

@regularmovieguy - Don't know why he said no, might have been scheduling since that was right in between his Sorkin film & Succession season 3. He'd be a great get for any of these films.

Damn 😂

The video is a geek...had to rewatch it after all these years. I’ll try and find another link.

This isn’t the full skit but see if this works...The first two minutes are really funny but this clip has the Sarsgaard portion.

@regularmovieguy - Whenever I thing of Peter Sarsgaard, this skit is usually the forest thing I think of, LOL. (It’s better that’s thinking about his role in Green Lantern). Stupid skit and yet funny at the same time. Thanks for the link. I haven’t seen that skit in years.

@RolandD

It is [frick]ing funny, man. I remember that season of SNL actually rejuvenated my love for the show. Sandberg, Sudekis, Hader, Wiig.

They were all added when Ferrell and co were on their way out but it was an awesome mix of veterans and rookies.

PETER SAARSGAARD! ARG!

@regularmovieguy - The show goes through it’s ups and downs, but that was another classic era and I started watching the show in the very beginning so I've seen a few.

@regularmovieguy - The Sandberg/Hader era was legendary. The current crop kind of sucks

@tmp3

There are definitely a few personalities that I really dig.

The Weekend Update crew is good (Jost and Che).

I like Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, Mikey Day...

But yeah, for the most part it's pretty weak. Sandberg/Hader class was legendary.

@regularmovieguy - I love Kyle Mooney but he's always "cut for time". You seen his indie film Brigsby Bear? Cute stuff

If the part is great, he should be great in it. Hopefully it will also help CBM fans forget about Hector Hammond.
