THE BATMAN: Warner Bros. Reportedly Gives Sequel The Green Light

We're a little over 10 days away from the next trailer for The Batman being released, and a new report claims that Warner Bros. has now given a sequel to Matt Reeves' movie the green light. Check it out...

Warner Bros. clearly has big plans for The Batman franchise. A spinoff focusing on the Gotham City Police Department is coming to HBO Max, while the trades recently reported that The Penguin will also get his own series (so, basically FOX's Gotham split into two different shows).

It's no great surprise that the studio is keen to put the spotlight back on the Dark Knight, and "scooper" Daniel Richtman is now claiming that a sequel recently received the green light. Batman on Film claims to have confirmed the news, but until the trades weigh in with something a little more concrete, it's obviously best to take this with a pinch of salt.

There have been rumblings since pretty much day one that Matt Reeves would take the helm of a trilogy of Batman movies, and it's possible an official sequel announcement will be made at DC FanDome.

We're getting the second trailer for The Batman at that virtual event, so excitement for the DC Comics adaptation is bound to increase once that sneak peek arrives. Richtman has previously claimed that at least two more spinoffs are in the works, so if you're a Batman fan, it sounds like there's going to be plenty of movies and TV shows revolving around the Caped Crusader's world to look forward to.

Of course, many fans will be frustrated to learn that Batman is going to continue to receive so much of the spotlight, especially when there's such a huge number of DC characters who continue to be sidelined. The vigilante is still a huge draw for Warner Bros., though, so expect him to remain a priority moving forward.

The Batman is set to be released exclusively in theaters on March 4, 2022.

This would be the perfect time to properly introduce Robin, you can't ignore his legacy WB!

@bobevanz - Battinson is only in his second year in the first movie, he probably won't be too old by the sequel.
The first Robin should make his appearance when the character of Bruce has the right age to meet Dick.

Classic WB move, green light sequels and new movies without waiting the box office results.
We all saw what happened to the JL sequels.

But this time is Matt Reeves, not Hack Snyder, so hopefully The Batman will be a good movie with a Dark Knight that finally does not kill.
Also Robert Pattinson is an extremely talented actor, so I cannot wait for March to arrive.
Maybe WB this time did the right move.

@Ryuzaki - I’d be super surprised if this Batman isn’t killing people by the way he was beating that one dude in the trailer. Unless they do what they did in the Nolan movies and just choose to pretend all the killing isn’t happening

@Ryuzaki - The thing that bothers me is that they have a trilogy planned. They need to stop limiting Batman and his series'. Because what's going to happen? We're going to get 3 movies with a handful of villains, then it's just going to get rebooted.......again.

And I understand they are planning the Gotham PD show and a Penguin show, which should help build the world. But still, those can go either way. I'm not sure anyone needs a Penguin show.

I'm just over all the reboots. They need to start a Batman series and just let it go as long as it can.

@Ryuzaki - that beatdown at the end of the trailer looked like it would pulverize a person.

Warner just doesn't learn...

I'm sure this film is going to be a success but Warner can't just go around comissioning sequels and spin-offs to films that haven't even been released yet.
What if something uncontrollable happens that throws the film off it's trajectory. Or the film just isn't very good?

The cemetery of announced WB/DC projects that never went beyond the development phase despite being announced is getting bigger and bigger.

Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, Deadshot, Harley & Joker, Justice League: Part 2, Batman Triumphant, Superman Lives, Superman Returns 2,Man of Steel 2

@Blergh - Marvel did samething fantastic four reboot day there going be sequel before hit box office no sequel now marvel is saying there could more Thor sequels with female Thor

@dragon316 - the officially announced films don't have any fixed sequels yet. Between saying there might be sequels with Lady Thor that is far from greenlighting and putting into production.

But I get what you're saying.
However Marvel's track record with sticking to announced films is a bit better there.
