THE BATMAN's Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed And It's Near-Perfect

The reviews have been counted, and it's good news for The Batman as the Matt Reeves-helmed blockbuster has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect score. Find more details after the jump...

The review embargo lifted for The Batman earlier today, and after a year of relegating its biggest movies to HBO Max, Warner Bros. is returning to the big screen with a Wham! Bang! Pow!

It's the nature of the beast that Rotten Tomatoes scores fluctuate (Wonder Woman 1984 was "Certified Fresh" before plummeting to dreaded Rotten status). However, as of now - and there's a good chance the score will change by the time you read this - The Batman sits at a near-perfect 91%.

The score is based on 119 reviews, and while we're a little surprised it isn't even higher after that first wave of verdicts found their way online, this is by no means a bad start for Matt Reeves' movie.

The Dark Knight is the highest-rated Batman movie on Rotten Tomatoes with 94%. The LEGO Batman Movie was in second place with 90%, but has been bumped down to third by The Batman. In fourth place is The Dark Knight Rises with 87%, while Batman Begins rounds out the new top 5 with 84%. Needless to say, this reboot is faring extremely well thus far.

"Delivering the definitive take on the World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman is a sweeping, cinematic masterpiece that’s both DC’s best film and one of the most captivating, relentless, and unforgettable comic book movies ever made," we said in our 5* review of the DC Comics movie.

The Batman arrives in theaters on March 4.

@TheHumanSpider2 @dragon316 I didn’t like Batman v Superman and I watched that three times. I was so hyped for it too haha. But I needed to watch it multiple times to come to a real opinion on it and properly process everything. The first time I’m seeing the fan screen tmw, the second time I’m seeing as a double date, and the third is for free bc my friend rented out a theater for it lol

So...where are those folks that were complaining about Robert Pattinson? Or complaining about a black Jim Gordon and Catwoman? Or complaining about the run-time? Or complaining about the costumes not being bright or colorful?
Ya'll had all that smoke before so where are you?

@JesseCuster - I didn't see that many people complaining honestly other than about the costume... which I still think is not very good, although it makes sense for the story being told -- it's just that after the perfection that was Batffleck's costume (about the only thing Snyder got right about the character), it feels like quite a downgrade in comic-bookyness..

@Franshu - Batfleck's suit, while it was well made as a Dark Knight Returns homage, wasn't this shining beacon of perfection. The neck was none-existent, it was incredibly padded, and he just looked like a fat gorilla in the suit. Which don't get me wrong, Affleck was in great shape but the suit didn't do a lot of favors for him.

It’s currently fluctuating between 94 and 96 last time I checked

Hopefully this leads to another solo Superman film.

This is a HUGE success for WB, no doubt.

@KingLeonidas - Too bad the rest of their 2022 film slate looks like more of the same mistakes they've been known for making

Love seeing the positivity. Sounds like a new bar has been set for 'gritty, dark grounded superhero films'. Are we finally going to stop using the term 'Nolanising' now.

Also, random thought. As WB seem to continue to be getting Batman right and Superman so wrong, why not introduce him in a Batman movie, and then let him fly solo.. Just don't let him take over his own film like what Batman did to BvS.

Hate welcome.

I guess people thought Batman/Bruce Wayne being modeled after Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) was a bad idea, but it seems like its one of the strongest part of this film. EMO Batman for the win...I guess? A lot of critics are comparing the gritty realism and characterization to Reeve's Planet of the apes film too.

I knew Matt Reeves will deliver!

Lol “near” perfect? I think that’s a bit of a stretch.
