Gary Oldman Talks About Retiring Jim Gordon And The Direction The Character Is Going In The Dark Knight Rises

MTV caught up with Gary Oldman at the Gotham Awards where they asked him about his lack of a Gordon mustache. Oldman said he has retired the mustache and that he was even presented a display with his badge, glasses, and mustache to commemorate his time working on the Batman films. He also said that the Gordon we see in The Dark Knight Rises is resistant of the Gordon we see in Batman Begins saying he is very world weary.

On the lack of his Jim Gordon Mustache at the awards:

"The Gordon mustache is retired. They gave me a shadow box and it had in it my badge, my glasses, and a mustache. And he(Gordon) is retired."

On the mind set of Gordon in The Dark Knight Rises:

He is a little reminiscent of the Gordon you see in Batman Begins. They have tidied up the city, but there is still work to be done. He is very world weary.

On Joseph Gordon-Levitt:

"He is someone who is talented. I do these scenes with him and you can't put a pin through an insincere moment. It's wonderful. You come out of character sometimes, because you watch actors and you find your self going God he's really good. He's lovely."

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Garly Oldman, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and will be released on July 20, 2012.

Reminiscient of Begins??? Thats awesome! Begins was more of a superhero movie than TDK but both are great movies. I am sooo excited for The Dark Knight Rises!!

@ marvel72 & nomis - Gary Oldman cast in ANY movie ranks as one of the best casting choices of all time! He's that good he even made Lost In Space watchable!! Simply an amazing actor!

I can't believe I doubted and complained when Oldman was first casted in '05.
His performance as Gordon was better than I could have imagined. He was very believable, just how I pictured Gordon would be in a live-action film.

Liam Neeson and Michael Caine were also great choices.

He messed up big time when he casted Katie Holmes, though 0_O

I thought Fassbender did a great job as Magneto. Bale WAS a lot better in Batman Begins, where his Batman voice wasn't as distracting

bale as batman is a no no,yes great body for batman but that put on cancer voice really spoils the performance for me.

@Nomis: I loved the fact the batman can now not move his head around, which makes it easier for him to drive lol. They should have made the neck piece like it was in Begins, just not attached.

In Batman Begins, I though the voice was awesome(like in the scene with Flass and the confrontation with the drugged Crane)
But in the climax of TDK where he tries to get harvey to put down the gun I was like : "What the [frick] is he saying?!"

Seriously though, Oldman is certainly one of the best casting choices for a CBM. Up there with RDJ as Iron Man, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Heath Ledger as Joker (generic, I know), and Christian Bale as Batman (if you don't let his cancer voice ruin the performance for you). In fact, so far most of this Batman trilogy's cast has been spot on (except both Rachel Dawes versions).

Oldman is unbelievably great actor i tell you!

He literally was Jim Gordon in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. My favorite casting choice in CMB history.

Who [frick]ing knew he can play good guy so good!;)

@Godzillafart Yeah, physically Jackman wasn't exactly in line with Wolverine (too tall, etc). But he managed to put on excellent performances in even the shittiest films (Origins, X3).

I think Keaton was the best Batman and Bale the best Bruce Wayne.
I don't count Batman Begins as a Batman role for him because he was fighting his enemy (Ra's) as Bruce, his student, with armor on

I'm really happy that Commissioner Gordon is an actual CHARACTER in the Nolan films. In the Burton and Schumaker films, he pretty much just flips the Bat signal on at the beginning of the movie, and that's about it. In the Nolan films he's just as much of a main character as Batman is, just like Year One, which I definitely appreciate. Kudos to Nolan and Oldman with the character.

"This is not some Mickey Mouse Bullshit" - Gary oldman is an amazing and underrated actor in my opinion. I dont like the Bale batman voice, it may be ok with villains i guess. but when you are just chillin and talking to people it sounds ridiculous. I think i read that someone said the head movability on the 1st suit was better then the 2nd. He couldn't turn his head at all on the 1st suit, it was one full rubber piece from the head and neck. The 2nd suit is more like a bat helmet so he can move his head around a little bit at least. The 2nd suit is way better then the 1st, the 1st was soooo bulky and awkward looking imo. To be truthful though, i really dont like either movie costumes.

LO LO LOL wow what a RANDO(m) ending to the interview/piece!!! ",.Hathaway,..the lovely Anne Hathaway!" LOL I mean I always thought that Gary Oldam, tho brilliant on screen was a lil geeky in person but wow lol. its so funny its like as Gordon he is spot on Year One Godon/Officer Jake Hoyt (Training Day w/Denzel Washington) yet in person as 'Gary Oldam' he is like Pat Hingle Gordon ('Forever'/'&Robin')/C3PO(personality lol)

@every1; am I alone guys? I hope Gordon gets to (street fight) kick some butt in this last time around. Think about it, he has been limited to only pulling steel and droppin lines on bad guys so far (the last time even on Bats himself lol) and Gotham's DA has LITERALLY thrown more punches than him (more than once I might add!) its time for Jimbo to kick a lil butt (obviously not Bane's; the way things are lookin JUST the opposite)

@paulrom

yeah buddy you knew that your 'cssting comment' was going to pull some controversy/additions lol So lets begin, Robin's take. Rachel Dawes? Both versions really? I honestly felt that Katie got WAY to much flack and hate, she was not TERRIBLE. I think her worst scene was her half tail scream upon seeing Batman for the first time, I mean c'mon, THAT would be your reaction?? And yet you guys (fanboys/average-joe-mover-goers) give Basinger SOO much hate on her "screaming script" performance well she certainly could have taught Katie a few things. Furthermore I think Katie had the 'necessary' near-literal 'girl next door' cuteness for the role to have been some one who grew up with Bruce and I mean for this character to have been manufactured by the script/creative-process she actually makes a LOT of sense as the seeming perfect key to Bruce Waynes happiness if theres no or could ever be no Batman. (she even worked better than the 'animated version of the same role' even on Andra Boumont - tho that movie kicked butt!) As far as TDK 'Rachel' the Joker is clearly insane b/c beautiful,...- HER is NOT! Theres ugly and then there is just plain NOT/UN-attractive and she was in no way ugly or even 'bad looking' but she was just 100% UNattractive. I can honestly say I would not be inclined to do ANY thing sexually with her, she'd have to even beg to bj me. (& if I get hate for that, sorry guys I'm not desperate, I can pretty much have my pick so yes I can turn down favors and would not take just anything) Ok this is getting long and I know how you guys frown upon that (when all you have to do is just NOT/or stop reading it if its 'Twitterly "too" long' (to me if there was such thing than the site comment format would MAKE a limit, so complain to the site) Hugh Jackman, yeah I agree but on the height thing, lets face it folks, theres not going to BE a 5;3: Wolverine, I always thought that was gay anyway (a note to the creators) And I TOTALLY kno I'm alone on this (what else is new) but I think Doc Ock (and that movie) was WAAAAY over rated!! I LITERALLY ENJOY S3 - WITH all its problems(!!) more. (not to get off subject but S3 really just suffers from TWO problems period and those are; TOO many villains and MJ's mouth, fix those 2things and you got an ok S3, decide if you wanna focus on the Black Costume Saga or Venom but NOT both. maybe venom coulda showed up @the end similar to Two Face in TDK but the film itself shoulda just covered The Black Costume saga, that'd been MORE than enough and ONE villan but not Venom b/c obvoiusly you can only do one at the time) And yes RDJ was perfect as was Terrance Howard IMHO
