THE BATMAN: There's Speculation That Matt Reeves' Reboot May Have Introduced The Future Robin

Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight taking on a teenage sidekick might be difficult to imagine in the world of The Batman, but is there a chance Matt Reeves introduced the future Robin right under our noses?

Mild spoilers for an early scene in The Batman follow.

Outside of the campy '60s Batman TV series, Robin has always been a difficult character to pull off on screen. The idea of The Dark Knight taking a teenager under his wing and training him as a vigilante just doesn't really gel with the more grounded takes on the DC Comics hero we've seen from the likes of Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves. Even Batman Forever aged the character up a little, while Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman revealed that the DCEU's Boy Wonder was killed off-screen by The Joker.

Is there any chance a sequel to The Batman will introduce a sidekick for Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader? Well, some believe we've already met him.

When we first see Batman in the movie, he's stopping some thugs from beating up a man in the subway station. One of them is clearly reluctant to hurt the poor guy, and actually stops one of his fellow gang members from shooting their shadowy assailant. Bats repays the favor by not beating the crap out of the kid, and he makes a quick exit.

This was more than likely just a throwaway moment to reflect that Gotham City isn't completely beyond saving, but there's a lot of speculation that this unnamed character could return as Robin down the line (coincidentally, actor Jay Lycurgo actually plays Tim Drake in Titans).

What do you guys think? Are people reading way to much into this? Drop us a comment down below.

He's a fine actor and did well in the role, but na. He's already a Robin. I'd prefer the Kid at the funeral becoming Robin if they didn't stick to source.

Bring in Dick Grayson in the 3rd movie if we get that far. Hopefully Bruce will be more prosporous, seasoned and more of a mentor/father figure.

We’re seriously making articles about random Twitter speculation now? WTF?

@Nerdman3000 - I mean, that's not the only person suggesting it! It seems to be a pretty popular theory.

@RorMachine - I mean, so was the theory that Jared Leto’s Joker was Jason Todd. It being a popular theory didn’t mean anything then either.

I loved this movie, and I really want more of this world, but recent comments have me worried this will be too grounded. Even though the movie has a heightened reality to it. I don't want just the human villains

No, just introduce him properly in a sequel. My pick would be Javon Walton from Euphoria.

Tim is my favorite Robin, but we need Dick Grayson.

Although that scene would make for a good origin for Jason Todd

Nah, if the Schumacher version had a problem, was that Dick Grayson was too old...same with this guy.
Dick should be 12, and played by a teenager, not a dude in his 20s.

I do think this movie heavily hinted at Batman "adopting" a Robin in the sequel, considering how he behaves every time he sees a kid who just lost his parents, not to mention, one of the last shots of the movie.

About Dick's race, I think they should respect Tim Burton's original idea, and while Marlon Wayans is known mostly for comedy, I think he would've made a great job as Robin, same with Billy Dee Williams as Two Faces...which btw, makes you wonder how Warner got away with those recastings in Forever.

Anyway, in my opinion, the optimistic ending of the movie sets up for a more "positive" Bruce in the sequel, and Robin is the perfect character to balance how broody Batman can get...plus, you can make him super likeable, so when you-know-who kills him in the third or fourth movie, audiences will feel bad.
