THE BATMAN's Mammoth Runtime Now Confirmed To Be Just Shy Of 3 Hours (With Credits)

It's now been confirmed that The Batman is going to have a near-three hour runtime, so if you're someone who likes a pee break, you might want to skip buying a soda! Find out more details after the jump...

Earlier this week, it was rumoured The Batman's runtime will clock in at three hours. Well, The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed with Warner Bros. that the movie is going to be a whopping 2 hours, 55 minutes (with eight minutes of credits included). That's makes this a loooong movie, and places it just six minutes behind Avengers: Endgame's 3 hours, 1-minute runtime.

Now, a lengthy blockbuster like this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but a bum-numbing runtime isn't always what's best for business. Anything longer than 2 hours, 30 minutes automatically shaves off a show a day in theaters, but with a lot of movies clocking in past that point these days, Warner Bros. has probably taken it into account and isn't too worried by potential financial implications.

The Batman recently received a PG-13 rating, and there's clearly a lot of story Matt Reeves wants to cram into this "Year Two" adventure for Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader. We're hoping that won't include another origin story, though there will certainly be time for one in this movie.

Some fans will welcome this news (who doesn't want to spend three hours watching the Dark Knight kicking ass?) while others are likely to feel this is simply too long to be sat in a theater right now.

If nothing else, it seems safe to say Warner Bros. must have given Reeves the creative freedom he wanted to tell this tale about the World's Greatest Detective and The Riddler. The Batman is fast approaching, and it probably won't be too much longer until screenings start for critics. As a result, we'll soon have a much better idea of whether this lengthy runtime is a good or bad thing.

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.

Will the sequel take that leap to 3 hours

@dracula - This what happens when you have to setup follow up tv shows. Catwoman, Penguin, and Gotham remake etc are supposed to come after it and before Batman 2. Endgame did the same thing too with setting up Loki, Hawkeye, What If, Falcon/Winter soldier, etc.

All the big 200 mil CBMs are going to be long becuz they will be setting up a spin off or follow up tv show. Black Adam is supposed to have a JSA tv show and Flashpoint is supposed to have a Supergirl show. Lets just hope the film doesn't suck....

I am always ok with longer movies when it comes to CBMs/epics so this is music to my ears.

Although, my love for being in the theater at all has waned over the years big time just because of other annoying ass people so that is unfortunate.

Sheesh. Now this movie has no excuse of having no time to develop characters or feel rushed. But man, that's quite the runtime.

Especially for a movie that's not an origin story for Batman

I'll remain optimistic, but 3 hours seems excessive for a Batman origin movie.

When it's something epic in scale like The Return of the King or Endgame where you are trying to wrap up an entire saga, then a long run-time feels earned, but when it's a grounded take on the Batman origin it feels unusual.

One can only hope the runtime is a sign that they intend to lean more heavily into the Detective aspects and therefore it needs the time to unravel all its mysteries.

Everything i have seen or heard about this movie just doesn't excite me.
Everything but the fact that this is supposed to be a detective story which will have Batman having to solve riddles and combine clues.

But there is nothing of that in the trailers.
Cap1
Cap1 - 1/20/2022, 3:13 PM
@MarvelZombie616 - the trailers have shown around 5 total minutes of a 2 hour 47 min long film. Impossible to gauge

@MarvelZombie616 - No comic book movie should last 3 hours, not Aquaman, not Endgame, both of those movies had a lot of fat that could've been cut, The Batman will be the same case.

@MarvelZombie616 - I’m in the same boat.
I’m a HUGE Batman fan but so far ( aside from the theme ) I’m not excited about another “grounded” adventure.
sigh.

@Twenty23Three -
Yes, and it's going to be Joker because they have not remotely got the balls to do anything different.

Either that or they attempt to adapt Hugo Strange.
