It's official! A look at the upcoming Batman and Harley Quinn special features section has confirmed that Warner Bros. is working on the new Batman: Gotham By Gaslight animated film. Earlier this year, 'Dexter' star Jennifer Carperter revealed at Wizard World: St. Louis that she was attached to an animated film of the same title, but was mum on who the studio was. She will be providing the voice of the Dark Knight's current bride-to-be, Catwoman. This reveal, if and when confirmed, means that the studio will be making changes to the original story as readers of this beloved one-shot know that Catwoman was not involved in it.

Here is the official synopsis for the film-

"In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper."

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight did have a sequal story known as Master of the Future (1991), written by Augustyn with drawing done by Eduardo Barreto. With that knowledge, it is possible that the animated film may already have it's on sequal to be released, should Gotham By Gaslight sell well.

For your first look at the upcoming Batman: Gotham by Gaslight animated movie, be sure to check out the return of Loren Lester as Nightwing, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Animator Bruce Timm and new Harley Quinn voice actor Melissa Ranch (The Big Bang Theory) and grab Batman and Harley Quinn on August 29, 2017 at whatever place you still go to buy DVDs. Or go digital.

Be sure to check my interview with Loren Lester and see what everyone's favorite Robin has been up to.

DC's Animated films of late have been a little disappointing. This is the type of project that could get it back on track. Consider me hyped.

@MrMurdock - yeah, the New-52 inspired movies have been kind if lackluster. the alternate universe things, like Assault on Arkham or Gods and Monsters are amazing thou.

@Spidey91 - Mmm, I personally wouldn't put Gods and Monsters in the category of amazing, definitely a step in the right direction.

The Dark Knight Returns Part I & II still stand as my absolute favourites with Under the Red Hood not far behind.

Elseworld Victorian era Batman? interesting. never heard of this before.
maybe we could get a Kingdom Come adaptation in the future. or a Red Son animated film if that live-action idea doesn't pull through (spoiler alert: it isn't going to).

hope we get Superman Red Son this next year, it will be Superman's 80th anniversary, they better at least do one movie, maybe What Ever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow

Ha, I just ordered the comic yesterday. I wanted to know if it's as good as my somewhat blurry memories makes it out to be, and my girlfriend likes Victorian era stuff and wanted to give it a try as well.

Curious how this animated adaptation will be. These days I tend to not like the main DC animation movies, but sometimes the side stuff is good. Then again we had The Killing Joke...

Sounds dope.

In all honesty I wanna see less Batman related animated movies. Give other characters some shine. It'll help decide whether a future DCEU movie can happen.

This is great news. I hope it stays close to the source material and doesn't add other stuff like what the Killing Joke did.

I first read the synopsis and thought I read that Harley Quinn will play a big role in the film, but after rereading it she won't. Because I don't recall her in the movie and would like her not to be added.

So what I found out is that it is a synopsis for the Batman and Harley Quinn movie and not for Gotham by Gaslight.

If the animation is anything like the "Batman and Harley Quinn", it will be a big blow to DC animation.
